Different. The story of SPR was more interesting. Visually, Dunkirk sets a new standard.

In SPR, think about the metal sound of the tank coming over the top of the rubble. Dunkirk has that intensity for the majority of the movie combined with a haunting score.

I saw it on a regular and I'd say yes to 70mm or Imax.

On another note we couldn't understand a damn thing they were saying and it didn't really matter

1000% YES

This movie was a masterpiece.

Saw it last night and it was great.

One of the trailers they showed before the movie was for Darkest Hour. Tied right in to Dunkirk. Looking forward to seeing that too.

70mm IMAX for me tonight. Can't wait. I'm a sucker for Nolan(IMO He is the goat) but typically hate wars movies so I'm interested to see how I feel

One rather nit-picking technical question...did they use some of the actual small craft used in 1940? I know a lot of them are still around.

I really want to see this movie, but it may have to wait a bit until I can get to a 70mm or IMAX theater...

Yes they did. Along with actual ships from back then too

It is a very different movie. SPR was about a group of individuals and their experience/mission. This movie is about the event and you learn very little to nothing about the characters in it, and in my opinion that did not take anything away from the movie for me

I saw it last night. Probably the best Nolan film to date.

My one criticism is : why did the pilot land on the beach in enemy territory? He couldve landed on the beach next to British troops. Also, what was the deal with the people in the hull of that boat that were being shot at?

I didn't understand that. Where were they? How did they get in the boat and who was shooting at them?

He had no engine power and had to manually lower the gear. he landed where he could.

Yeah, I think you blacked out in part of the movie . . . as the three main soldiers were in the boat.

I was writhing in agony in my seat as the sailors in the water were burning alive. That was so tough to watch.
Hans zimmer is a lock to win best score. That was amazing and set the tone and pace of the movie .

Very good.

Loved it. I did get confused at one point. What happened towards the end when the boat did something with German plane and they were talking about the Captain of the boats knowledfe of aircraft?

He was waiting till the last second to turn the boat in a different direction because he knew something about how those planes line up their shots

I think the son told the guy they picked up that his dad was a pilot in WWI. Apparently he knew a lot about aircraft, pilots and air strategy and that allowed him to guess the move of the Nazi pilot and avoid being hit.

Overall, what a fantastic movie experience.

Gotcha. So who took that German plane down? Tom hardy's engines were already shut down at that point.
