Was that movie a joke? A Sharknado type joke?

You are in a very small minority.

I actually like Cabin in the Woods more, but they are both really well-done in a genre that has lost its mojo.

What genre is that? Sure as hell isn't traditional horror. Dark comedy?

No. It is considered one of the best horror movies of the new millennium.

Clearly you aren't a horror aficionado.

Dark comedy?

yeah, but FOR ME, it still doesn´t get it.

I mean, those that I watched it with laughed, but I didn´t get it. It was simply stupid and failed to be funny, IMO.

They thought it was funny, however. They´ve even said it should be a classic. WTF?

I don´t know.

Is that the one where the guy gets cursed by the old lady because he doesn't give her a loan?

Close, a girl gets cursed for not giving the old lady a loan.

That's Yes Man w/ Jim Carey.

Its Sam Raimi's attempt at going back to his Evil Dead roots. I like Evil Dead better though.

I've tried to watch this several times and end up cutting it off not long afterwards. I always hear about how great it is though...maybe I just need to force myself to sit down and watch the whole thing (although that will admittedly bias me a bit toward not liking it).

Drag Me to Hell is one of Raimi's best. Such a great throwback to the "funhouse" vein of horror movies. It's got way more Evil Dead DNA in it than the lame Evil Dead remake did. In fact it's essentially a movie about Ash as a hot blonde.

You really have to like dark comedy. I happen to love dark comedy, and found this movie awesome.

Right, but I cut it off because I didn't like it. That's the problem.

I'll have to give this another shot soon.

Drag Me to Hell belongs in the same category as Tales from the Crypt and Creepshow. It can certainly function as horror, but it's got that puckish streak, and is generally heavy on the mischief and macabre irony. It's not quite all the way to genre parody (like Shaun of the Dead), but it's definitely fun horror.

I guess that type of movie isn't particularly in vogue anymore, because a number people I know dismiss Drag Me to Hell for not being scary, but that's like saying Evil Dead II sucks for not being scary. This is old-school Raimi, and it's glorious.
