This has never made sense. In any case, what if she decided while rounding bases? Maybe she knew she was going to win..and it just didn't matter to her anymore.

It made perfect sense. Dottie was all up in kits head when Dottie hit the comebacker for the go ahead runs. She was done. Dottie saw it when kit came up to bat. Knowing kit was out of it, Dottie calls for the high heat. But then something happened; Kit dug down and got a hit. Then she ignores the coach and makes the turn at third.

At that moment, Dottie realized that baseball is all her sister had. So much so, that she found a way to get her head back in the game. Furthermore, if Dottie tags kit out at home, kit will resent her forever. No matter how good she is, baseball will never be Dottie's life, especially not by beating her baby sister which everyone knows she's gonna do.

So, Dottie dropped the ball. Her sister gets to be the hero. Her sister forgives Dottie. Dottie walks away and goes on with her life, with no regrets.

Word.

I'm in on this one.

Although the better answer is...

It doesn't matter. He is at peace.

Saying Dottie dropped it on purpose makes my blood boil. That would literally ruin the whole movie.

It makes the movie.

Dottie was done with baseball.

Loved her sister more than baseball, made a snap decision to let her have the moment. Dottie was finished with baseball.

And the knowing smile her Kit gives Dottie as she is leaving the field. . .

Oh, and the fact that the director said she dropped it on purpose. . .(can't find the link, posted it before)

And here is an ESPN bit on the movie LINK
quote:

She abandons the Peaches before the World Series only to come back for a deciding Game 7 and (Spoiler Alert!) drop the ball on purpose in the final play of the game. This reeks of the Black Sox scandal.

If Dottie doesn't drop the ball then the entire point of the movie is lost imo.

Just when I thought you couldn't be any dumber, you go and start a thread like this...

And totally redeem yourself.

The movie purposefully showed Dottie taking on a collision and holding on to the ball. Plus, they showed Dottie observe Kitt crying in the dugout after Dottie "Charlie Browned" her. The post game smile from Dottie said it all, and Jimmy knew it.

Only according to everything the movie presents.

But it makes people's vaginas feel good to think she dropped it on purpose.

Years later when she realized what an awesome idea it would have been? Riddle me this, if that was her intention, why not actually show that in the movie?

Again, this is the other way around.

It makes people feel good that she DOESN'T drop it on purpose. That's all they argue about, that KIT TRIUMPHED OVER HER SISTER. When that wasn't the point of the movie, which is why it didn't happen that way. It's about Dottie's CHOICE not her failure.

No, it's what the movie shows happening.

Self fulfilling prophecy. You see what you want to see and not what really happened.

What happened was, Kit moved on and Dottie went back to the farm. And Dottie was okay with that.
