Don't know who could pull off the upset.

I hope it wins but with all the white guilt stuff going on I wouldn't be surprised for an upset from Moonlight or Fences

If that happens its on the 'Shakespeare in Love' level of absurdity.

La La Land will win at least 9 Oscars tonight. No other film has a shot at upsetting it.

Not only do I not know, but I don't care. I keep movies in the entertainment box part of my mind, and do not elevate celebrities to some near-demigod status. They are just the components of movies and television, music and the like. Some are actually talented. For me that is far as I'll go. When they begin to show their politics and get preachy, then it becomes quickly obvious they are out of their element and need to shut up and just stick to entertaining.

So, what's the difference between them and you?

ETA: or me? This is a ridiculous standard to hold other humans to.

Some people can't handle the fact that others may have different perspectives

We shouldn't have to deal with that fact, this is America and I shouldn't have to listen to celebrities who disagree with me.

Moonlight. Some people have that as the heavy favorite for Best Picture.

Well, one difference is they have an international celebrity-worshiping public platform from which to spout their garbage opinions as if they were from on-high.

Me and you, we only have Tiger Droppings and maybe FB or Twitter or something.

So it may at the very least be a matter of degree.

Sounds like you're jealous.

And you're the one with the garbage opinion btw

It appears the fanboy hanging on to the cult of celebrity worship here is not me.

But they're citizens of this country (for the most part), just like you. They have every right to voice their opinions and use their platform to spread a message they believe in.

You're just pissed that their platform is bigger than yours.

Full disclosure - Haven't seen any Best Picture nominee except Arrival. That said - I have a philosophical opposition to any movie solely created in a lab for "Oscar buzz". It's likely petty, and I acknowledge that I'm probably missing out on a couple of good movies, but I just can't with good conscience patronize a movie that's almost exclusively engineered for the sole purpose of giving Meryl Streep, Sean Penn, or some other conceited, overblown egomaniac another pat on the back from a thousand other conceited, overblown egomaniacs because they're "so brave" as to take a job playing pretend.

As do I. In expressing my opinion of their opinions, you began your criticisms of my opinions (which is your right) - but you know, you also have the right to shut up. And in my opinion, you would do well to exercise that particular right a lot more often.

No. It's a pretentious circle jerk. And this Oscar ceremony may be the most pretentious one yet.

listened to a podcast last week about the Oscar preview and they had a guest critic on and they were talking about how deseperate Hollywood is for ideas

they said with all the Oscar stuff from last year and lack of diversity, the studios are falling over themselves rushing out minority based movies because they know the academy will be overcompensating for years past.

they said to expect a record number of black based movies in the next year or two

Remember, all of this coddling is over a race that makes up 12% of the population
