I think Clara is already dead or something. That very last bit made it seem like the doctor knew something we didn't.

Spoilers:

The Doctor: Because it's always the same. When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die. You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken! How many lives shattered! How much blood will spill until everybody does what they're always going to have to do from the very beginning -- sit down and talk! Listen to me, listen. I just -- I just want you to think. Do you know what thinking is? It's just a fancy word for changing your mind.

Bonnie: I will not change my mind.

The Doctor: Then you will die stupid. Alternatively, you could step away from that box. You could walk right out of that door, and you could stand your revolution down.

Bonnie: No, I'm not stopping this, Doctor. I started it. I will not stop it. You think they'll let me go after what I've done?

The Doctor: You're all the same, you screaming kids, you know that? "Look at me, I'm unforgivable." Well here's the unforeseeable, I forgive you. After all you've done. I forgive you.

Bonnie: You don't understand. You will never understand.

The Doctor: I don't understand? Are you kidding? Me? Of course I understand. I mean, do you call this a war, this funny little thing? This is not a war. I fought in a bigger war than you will ever know. I did worse things than you could ever imagine, and when I close my eyes... I hear more screams than anyone could ever be able to count! And do you know what you do with all that pain? Shall I tell you where you put it? You hold it tight... Til it burns your hand. And you say this -- no one else will ever have to live like this. No one else will ever have to feel this pain. Not on my watch.

That. fricking. Speech.

Also, I agree that Clara is already dead or something like that. The Doctor's "longest month of my life" comment seems to foreshadow something like that.

This has been SUCH a great season so far and last night's episode was the cream of the crop so far. It definitely is my favorite Capaldi episode.

I can't really decide.

I'm just really glad that Gatiss is already working on the second part for next season.

......?????

So what happened?

They spent all week building that up as a frightening episode. My first impression was it was boring, and the worst in many years. I usually don't like the mark gatiss episodes very much, so maybe it was just me.

Asian(?) Guy created a machine that allows you to live without sleep, but turns you into a "Sandman", which is apparently some "superior form of evolved human", because they don't need sleep. And then something about him and the Doctor being able to hijack into your eyesight, which I had no idea what was going on.

Yes I vaguely got that, but:

- the sleep in your eye in the morning is something bad you have to get rid of?
- if you don't get rid of it, it will build up, become sentient, kill you, take over your form, and take over the universe?
- the eyesight bit was revealed as some clever development, but didn't make sense
- if they can see everything, from each other's vantage point, from the ceiling etc, how are they blind?
- the doctor and Clara just abandoned the 38th century humans to destruction apparently
- I'm struggling to think of many worse episodes - fear her certainly was, and maybe a few others.
- the found footage format completely neutralized the current main strengths of the show: the acting of Coleman and Capaldi

See why I posted 'Da frick'?

The main problem with this episode is that it needs to be a two-parter, and they're not giving us the second part until (maybe) next year. There are so many loose ends (for example, the sand getting in Clara, which, I'm guessing, they're never going to mention again) that you can't really judge the episode's story because we've only got part of it.

That being said...

Things I liked:

- How Clara was written
- You couldn't tell that they were reusing the set from the underwater episodes
- The GLADOS-like computer
- Having a reason for the 'found-footage' style

Things I didn't like:

- The monsters looked exactly like the Time monsters from Journey to the Center of the TARDIS
- The 'found-footage' style
- Lack of development for almost all of the characters
- If they were all the same 'camera', why was there such variation in look?
- Not enough Doctor
- It not actually being complete

It's a shame because the idea of a monster created from eliminating sleep has a lot of potential. It's just the idea of a sleep eye monster was so stupid. Anyway, I'm excited about next week. I read a detail I wish I hadn't known ahead of time that has me really looking forward to it.

Did it sound like Maisie Williams's voice in the preview for next week to anyone else?

That was the detail. Can't wait.

The next three episodes look to all be very promising - if sad and devastating when Clara leaves.

Didn't like the episode. However, I thought the whole story was bullshite to draw you in so you'd see the little flash at the end to reprogram your brain?

My littlest kid, who has not yet seen this episode, or heard anything about it, is now afraid to go to sleep at night because of the "stuff that might be in my eye in the morning."

Maybe this episode tapped into a primal childhood fear?

Super Big, Not At All Benign Spoilers:

Holy shite it happened and I cried like a baby. That was just as bad as Amy's goodbye.

Damn that was rough.

Maisie better watch her arse from here on out. The Doctor is going to be pulling no punches when it comes to her.

You could see this coming all season long. Clara's recklessness was going to get her in the end. She became too clever for her own good, or rather she thought she was clever. Spending too much time with The Doctor had her too cocky and it was her downfall. She was playing with forces she didn't completely understand. It was pretty obvious once she took the chrono-lock from Riggsy that this was her final episode, but it still hit hard when it happened.

End spoilers.
