‘Doctor Strange’ Is Basically A Reboot Of The First ‘Iron Man,’ Only Much, Much Weirder

A visual wonder... but you still feel the formula straining.

The key is an in-on-the-joke script, which Derrickson co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and C. Robert Cargill, that ingeniously navigates major plot potholes even as it saddles its actors with ludicrous dialogue. But what actors!

There are certainly shades of Iron Man and Thor, but what the film brings to the table to balance out its familiar elements is some of the most bombastic, exciting and beautiful action sequences we've seen in modern blockbusters.

Sounds like a typical, formulaic Marvel film.

I'm sure it is, but it looks interesting to me. Everyones recommending to watch it in 3D as well.

Still better than anything DC has put out since The Dark Knight!

Say what you want about The Dark Knight Rises (I personally liked it), but any person who says it wasn't better than Iron Man 3 or Thor: The Dark World is kidding themselves.

For the love of all things cinema, CAN WE SWITCH TO METACRITIC?

Rotten Tomatoes is rotten.

Usual Marvel origin with exceptional effects.

I doubt that anyone will walk away letdown unless they believe the hype.

I feel sorry for the poor soul who thinks those movies are better

I think this is going to be a great film. Even if it is the formula- they know how to do it well. The advantages that this film has is tremendous talent and uncharted territory within the MCU(magic). I think Cumberbatch will just kick everything up a notch.

I've heard they are using it to basically put Cumberbach in Iron Man's role.

Fantastic visuals, an actual great villain, a not well developed main character arch (I've heard he kinda stays an a-hole for most of the movie and randomly becomes good near the end), and tons of exposition from the couple of reviews I read.

I expected the exposition, just reading up on Dr. Strange it doesn't seem like it could be made as an intuitive movie

I also keep seeing random bloggers ticked they put an old white woman instead of an old Asian woman as one of the main characters, but even they admitted she did well so if you can pass the test on those types, I'm excited ya know?

First I read that as Dr. Strangelove...which would definitely warrant the 100%.

Honestly, it's debatable. That movie was pretty bonk.

From the reviews I have seen, people are calling it a mashup of Iron Man, Batman Begins, and Inception. Not in a bad way though, they seem to like what they did with the mashup.

First rotten review from Forbes.

quote:

The visuals are worth the price of admission, but this is as generic and by-the-numbers an origin story as the MCU has ever made. It's better than 'Green Lantern,' but it will remind you of 'Green Lantern'.

I read an article on "The Best Coen Brother Movies" according to Metacritic score

No faith in that system

As per Rotten Tomatoes, there are other critics saying similar things, but RT chooses to count their mediocre ratings as positives for this particular film.
