Did Vin Diesel Leaving Fast and Furious 2/3 Actually Help the Franchise?

Before anyone mentions it, his cameo in Tokyo Drift does not count. By being absent in those two films, the audience was introduced to new characters. When they all gather in future films, it might as well be the Avengers Assemble. I honestly thought the franchise was dead after 3. Looking back, the approach really worked even though if the director had it his way, Vin Diesel would have been in it.

Yes he did. The events in Tokyo Drift take place between F&F 6 and F&F 7

Yeah but technically Tokyo drift is the last movie in the series as he's in 4, 5 and 6. Not sure about 7

It's impossible for my brain to keep track of all these movies. They meld into one big car chase. Except the first one.

he does in Tokyo drift but in 4 through 7 that moment that he dies doesn't happen until during the 7th movie. it's a catalyst for what occurs in 7

Because they probably didn't anticipate 135632 more movies

What was his reason for not being in those?

He actually only accepted the cameo in 3 if the studio gave him the rights to the Riddick movies
