Looks like Sig Hansen and the Hillstrand brothers will be back after all. LINK

(Sorry if Germans, I searched but could only find news from last month.)

Yeah, I read that too. What a load of shite.

Hillstrands - We aren't going to finish this job because we don't want to.

Discovery - Ok, dumbasses; we will take you to court.

Sig & Hillstrands - We are going to quit Deadliest Catch then because you are suing us.

Discovery - Ok dumbasses, see you in court, and I hope you enjoy not having the extra reality show money.

Hillstrands - Ok, we will perform as expected in our contract and do the Hillstraned show.

Discovery - Great. We will drop the suit.

Sig & Hillstrands - Since Discovery decided to drop their suit, we will do the Hillstanded show and return for Deadliest Catch.

It is so stupid how they are trying to spin this like the Captains are returning to the show(s) because the suit was dropped. Discovery had those guys (the HIllstrands) by the balls for not performing on a contract they signed. The only reason the suit was dropped was because they decided to return. There is no way Discovery gave these non-performing assholes more money right?

I really liked the first 3 or 4 season of the show, and I think it was dumb for them to quit on the contract and then get pissed when Discovery sued them. And the spin that they are returning because Discovery dropped the suit, is beyond retarded.

It is pretty clear the morons decided it was better to do the show than have their wages garnished for the rest of their lives.

I am not sure what they were holding out for. Maybe someone should point out to them that they are doing a show for freaking Discovery, not a major network.

I guess their attorneys pointed out to them, they were about to be raped in court.

You keep saying that, but you have no clue about the details of the situation.

Maybe the reason why they didn't want to finish with the spinoff show is that Discovery wanted them to do something that they didn't want to (maybe something they thought was over the line with the memory of Phil?).

The settlement could very well have been Discovery relenting on that one point.

While it is certainly possible that something like that could be true... one would think the brothers would be getting that story out there to get the public on their side. This article looks like the same info I read the first time, even though it is a different source (don't remember where I read it the first time):

LINK

quote:

"The Hillstrand Defendants determined that they would reverse course, dishonor their promises, and refuse to render the services necessary to complete 'Hillstranded,'" reads the complaint.

At the end of August, Discovery allegedly called the brothers to confirm a date, time and location for them to sit for interviews. The complaint says the only response was an e-mail from a lawyer for the brothers informing producers that they shouldn't attempt any further contact with them.

Furthermore:

quote:

The Hillstrand brothers couldn't be reached for comment.

Sounds like all that was left was interviews. And again, I think if Discorvery was doing something distasteful, the brothers would be telling everyone they came in contact with. Lastly, when has Discovery been known for doing seedy stuff like that? I thought they handled the Phil death well and the Billy Mays death.

If by handling it well you mean capitalized masterfully on the spike of attention, then yes. They weren't distasteful on air, but you know producers were seeing dollar signs.

Again, not saying that some disagreement about Phil specifically. If there was, I wouldn't be surprised if more Capt. sat out.

Just saying that the portrayal of them just backing down due to the lawsuit does not jive with the facts. My guess was that there was "something" that the Hillstrands wouldn't do that Discovery wanted to push. So they walked out of the side show. After the lawsuit, Sig joins in after having no apparent dog in the fight and drops from the upcoming season. That tells me that the Hillstrands were standing up for some principle and found some solidarity.

To me, it seemed that Discovery backed off of whatever point that made the Hillstrands edgey and everything went back to normal. Sig's involvement was key IMO.

I dunno if that is how it played out.

Just saying that is how it reads.

I disagree completely. I don't see how you think that is how it played out.

Seems clear to me since they did not make ANY statements as to why they backed out, that they were using the other show as a bargaining tool for more money.

If they had been asked to do something distasteful, they would have made that knowledge available to the press to garner sympathy for their side. They did not.

It seems more likely that they wanted more cash than your distasteful argument based on all facts presented. There are zero facts supporting your theory. There are also zero facts supporting mine but given past tv history, usually one side wants more money and threatens to quit to get more money.

Example, Charlie Sheen saying he was done with 2 1/2 men earlier this year, then CBS backed up the Brinks Truck and now he is signed for a few more years.

Of course they caved because of the lawsuit. The brothers tried to bluff Discovery into more cash and Discovery called the bluff by suing them. The brothers had no leverage at all so they got back to work.

Seems obvious to me what happened based on past history in TV land.

anyone know how much do these guys make from the show?

i wish the show would've ended honestly, it won't be the same without phil. it would've went out on an extreme high. i know discovery still sees too much $$ potential though.
