Remember seeing it in theaters in 1984, and had seen it a few times since - but not for decades.

Saw it to night (son's DVD). Damned near perfection.

I know I'll be in the minority, but Ghostbusters, while I enjoy it, has never really been a funny movie to me. I'll get a chuckle here and there, but there aren't any seriously funny scenes, IMO.

Watched it 2 weeks ago with my niece who loves Ghostbusters...Murray is genius in it, along with tons of other sneakily great, hilarious lines. It doesn't age, I still laugh aloud multiple times and it is still my favorite childhood movie ever. I agree, it's a perfect movie.

There are subtle jokes that never get old. You laugh at the obvious when you are young.

Great movie that gave me possibly my favorite film quote of all time:

quote:

Dr Ray Stantz: Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn't have to produce anything! You've never been out of college! You don't know what it's like out there! I've *worked* in the private sector. They expect *results*.

"WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE HERE ANYWAY?!"

"I'm studying the effect of negative reinforcement on ESP ability."

"THE EFFECT?! I'LL TELL YOU WHAT THE EFFECT IS! IT'S PISSING ME OFF!"

"Well then maybe my theory is correct."

Generally you don't see that kind of behavior in a major appliance.

exactly.

Easily my favorite movie as a child though I didn't see it as a comedy. I had all the toys, the cereal, ecto cooler hi-C, went as a ghostbuster for halloween multiple years, etc.

It wasn't until I was older that I actually saw how fricking funny it is. I love the dry, deadpan humor.

Part of what makes me laugh now when I watch it is imaging all the guys writing the "science" behind it. TOTAL PROTONIC REVERSAL!

It was mainly Ramis and Aykroyd doing the science writing - Ramis (RIP) and Aykroyd are huge nerds IRL.

Aykroyd is a UFO conspiracy nut, spiritual weirdo, studies the Bible, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc., most of that stuff in the script is him. The raw science and technobabble is a combination of him and Ramis.

We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft, he's a sailor, he's in New York. We get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble.

i only noticed when I watched it when I was older that the guy in the experiment actually had ESP or whatever and was actually guessing the correct pattern on the cards but Venkman shocked him anyways to hit on the hot chick. I picked up that he was giving it to her immediately but that made it even more hilarious.

Isn't it obvious? His favorite comedy is Schindler's List.
