D+N=H

Twenty years from now, the world will be amazed that we figured out the entire Song of Ice and Fire.

ETA:

I forgot about this -

quote:

What is truth is that GRRM said one of Dunk’s descendants would have a POV in AFFC, and that Brienne first had a POV in AFFC, and Brienne remembers Dunk’s shield in her father’s armory, and she carries a copy herself — so her being Dunk’s descendant I would put at a 10 for certain.

Every theory in this thread is circumstantial at best.

Good point though quite a few are fleshed out a lot more.

If ole Nan is around 100, that puts her being born right around the same time as Dunk, which was around 192. Likely, she was a little younger than Dunk.

D+N=H (you read it here first)

I also recall that Arya used the alias Nan when at Harrenhal. Nan being short for Nymeria. Interesting, if nothing else.

What I really like is Nan's story of the Last Hero:

quote:

So as cold and death filled the earth, the last hero determined to seek out the children, in the hopes that their ancient magics could win back what the armies of men had lost. He set out into the dead lands with a sword, a horse, a dog and a dozen companions.

The entire story is on the Wiki. I think this could foreshadow Jon's story in TWOW. But is also parallels Bran's.

GRRM says otherwise.

I'm in a arguing mood. Just ask the Mizzou fans on the rant right now. Come at me bro

Dunk was already at least 20 years old at the beginning of The Hedge Knight which took place 100 years before Game of Thrones. So yea a little younger. However that still doesn't change the fact that Nan is Hodors great grandma not his mother. Now Dunk could've possibly fathered one of Hodors Grandparents but he can't be his father.

Or bloodraven possibly.

I believe that Nan may have been a wildling who was captured at one time. Much like Osha.

Would explain how she knew so much about beyond the wall.

Dunk was 15-16 at the start of Hedge Knight
quote:

Dunk was hugely tall for his age, a shambling, shaggy, big-boned boy of sixteen or seventeen years (no one was quite certain which) who stood closer to seven feet than to six, and had only just begun to fill out his frame.

I think we will see a young Nan at Winterfell when Dunk and Egg get there*kinda like we see a young Walder). I think there is a good chance that Dunk will be in Hodor's family tree.

thanks again Belle

I think Wen Wen is Hodor's father.

J/k

Why is everyone so intent on finding Hodor's ancestry? I am betting he comes from nothing special (other than having some giant blood).

I'm just being an arse.

I agree with you, though. I bet Hodor's parents are nothing special at all. I don't see where the fake significance of his heritage came from.

It came from some interviews with GRRM on Westeros.org where he mentioned that Dunk has descendants (plural) in the realm and that at least one was featured in the books. It then came later that one would have a POV (which is where the Brienne stuff came from).

Also there's some crackpot theories that Dunk hooked up with Old Nan when he went to Winterfell (to be covered in the next Dunk and Egg novella).

Do the theories all suppose that Dunk's offspring were sired before he joined the Kingsguard?

I am guessing Dunk eventually found his Dornish puppet girl and that his offspring will have Dornish connections.
Starfall keeps coming to me in relation to Dunk due to the falling star over an Elm tree on his shield. I know it is not an exact replica of the sigil of Starfall, but the symbolism is there. Starfall is very close to Dorne. We have almost no history on Starfall from what I can find, and I think its name may ultimately have something to do with Dunk's sigil. The history of the Dayne's does not go back very far either.

There may have been a bastard from Dunk that was legitimized.

FWIW this is from the House Dayne ASOIAF Wiki:

quote:

House Dayne has ruled Starfall for centuries, taking part in many battles between Dorne and the Reach. In particular, they have been killing Oakhearts for thousands of years.

That seems to suggest that the Daynes pre-date Dunk.

I do think he sired before the Kingsguard though. He seems like the type to take those vows seriously and Aegon V wasn't named King until he was in his thirties.

Could the puppet girl have been a Dayne though? She painted the sigil with the falling star on his shield (or her mother did). Even though the Daynes have been around for a while, we only have history on like 2 generations.

I went back to look and she didn't really have any of the physical characteristics of a Dayne (very Targ like, especially with violet eyes).

Her description when Dunk sees her is, "a tall drink of water, with the olive skin and black hair of Dorne".

If Dunk had any kids. I think he had them before the KG. Egg was the forth son of a forth son, so nobody believed he would be king, so Dunk did not think he would be part of the KG and there is a good chance he had a kid or two before joining. It looks like he joined the KG older than most of the knight who join it.

I found this kinda funny because a Oakheart joined the KG after Dayne died, might have even replaced him.

Is the horn gonna work when Victorian uses 3 different guys?

It makes me crazy to enjoy so many characters in the story whether good or bad, cause I can't decide who to cheer for. I mean the Greyjoys, to me, are part of the villians but Victorian is a badass.

Same thing with Tyrion and Jaime. Love those guys, their family sucks.

OK 50 more pages s'go

The priest he's with said it can be mastered with blood and fire. That's obviously open ended. I think ol' Morroqo isn't telling the whole translation and intends to take it for himself.

BTW I saw you live in the Nasty Natti. Spent many a weekend at Bogarts there.
