Yep, this is my main hope on the series as well. Now he has real deadlines to have to hit with the TV series on his arse.

Definitely. And I appreciate everyone clarifying for me that some of the posters on the ASOIAF forum are full of a lot of suck ups . It was shocking not seeing people there inquire about GRRM getting off his arse to write because I've seen a lot of people both on here and on IMDb complain about Martin's pacing and inconsistent attitude towards his fanbase.

I know OMLandshark posts over there, but how about the rest of you? Or do you all strictly just lurk the threads there?

Yeah, ridiculous suck ups. I got banned for a week once for calling him "Ser Too Fat To Write".

I think Taena was lovers with Oberyn in Essos and is Doran's spy in King's Landing. Remember, in ADWD, Doran uncovers Cersei's plot to kill Tristane on the way to KL and explains he knew b/c he had spys in KL. Who else would it be? Cersei entrusted everything to Taena and you know Varys isn't working with the Martells.

Taena tells Cersei of a lover she had back in Essos who wouldn't take no for an answer, one she didn't really want to talk about, and we know Oberyn is one who would fit that description.

That's definitely plausible that Taena could inform Doran about Cersei's plans, or in general be an informant/spy to someone. Plus, Oberyn lived in Essos for a while.

who talked? How did Doran know about what was happening with Myrcella?

I always assumed that Taena was an informer for the Tyrells, but I never thought of the Martells.

Either way, Taena is informing someone and isn't Cersei's best friend by choice; there's definitely more going on there with Taena that I didn't pick up on my first reading of AFFC.

I think the Tyrells and Martells have been working for quite some time now to bring down the Lannisters. House Tyrell, while prominent, come off as a bunch of social climbers and want to control everything and be on top (i.e. Margaery as Queen). The Dornish wanted to avenge Elia, Oberyn, etc. and want a Targ to rule, and be on top as well (i.e. Arianne being Queen if Viserys wouldn't have been a dumbass and gotten himself killed). Both houses are doing what they can to ensure their own success. However, I think Doran's methods are starting to bite him in the arse; look at what happened to Quentyn, for instance. I can't imagine that he'd want to bring Dany into the fold after that. Plus, I could the Tyrells and Martells racing to the finish line to see which daughter marries Aegon first: Margaery, or Arianne. This also depends on if Margaery is found not guilty, and if Lord Oaf decides to do something about the trial. In addition, Arianne is very much like her Uncle Oberyn and her cousins, and she's hot tempered, stubborn, and doesn't think things through fully. I could also see her meeting with Aegon not turning out so well, but who knows what will happen. I also read a post on the ASOIAF forum, and someone said that they could see Doran dying in TWoW (due to his declining health), and that he's somewhat of the glue that's holding the Martells together. After that, who knows what will happen. With the exception of Ellaria Sand, and Trystane for that matter (who I consider to be a spare heir like Rickon), the rest of the bunch do stupid shite without thinking things through.

We've already seen the Starks, Tullys, and Lannisters reach lowpoints; GRRM is an equal opportunity offender, so I'm sure that we'll see the Tyrells and Martells decline in TWoW, while the Starks strengthen. All in all, the Vale has essentially remained untouched in all this crap, and it's been torturing me to know what Littlefinger is up to, and what the Vale lords have up their sleeves (especially if the Blackfish were to reach the Vale).

I post over there from time to time, same username, but mostly just lurk. And I pretty much only post on the literature board over there, mostly getting new author ideas or discussing books with said authors as there are a few good authors that actually pop in and discuss their books over there from time to time as well.

I think the discussion on the ASOIAF is generally better in this thread than over there, minus sheer numbers.

I'm starting to freak out a bit. Some of the more pessimistic fans are saying GRRM only has 300 pages written, while others are saying that he is halfway through writing.

I would hope that the closer he gets to the conclusion then whatever rough plot outline he's working from will drive the story more and more and he'll just be fleshing out the story rather than syncing plotlines. Hopefully his gimmick of using the D&E stories as an info dump will speed things up a bit as well.

It never crossed my mind before, but yeah, her "almost pirate" does sound a little Viperish.

I also think of Euron Crow's Eye as a 'pirate', but I doubt he would've wanted a relationship with her. Sounds more like Oberyn's style to keep in touch with his women.

This. I am choosing to believe he is closer to 3/4 done. But if not, he will never finish spring

I was really hoping the pre-order campaign would kickoff at the ending of the upcoming season on HBO... It would be awesome but I'll be shocked if there was a spring printing of TWoW.

Knowing he is a football/ Giants fan I'm sure he's distracted from his work. Although since the Giants are sucking this year maybe he'd get back to the grind stone before long.

We fans can only hope that the Giants sucking this year will motivate him to finish TWoW. He really does make so many damn excuses about not writing; makes me wonder if he's not into the series at all anymore, despite the HBO show being highly successful. Can't believe that wouldn't be enough incentive to light a fire under his arse.

I kind of worry that he wrote way too many story lines to be adequately wrapped up and he knows it.

I worry about that too, especially when he wrote AFFC it felt like he hit a roadblock. Like does it really matter what the Dornish and Iron Born do, and what is the point of taking a full book away from the regular POV's/limiting the regular POV chapters? Like did Brienne really need 8 chapters of not doing shite until she met the Hound possibly gravedigging and Stoneheart?

Whoever GRRM's editor is has fumbled the ball for the past 2 books.

Since Jon's parentage has been brought up again I've been thinking about the Tower of Joy and I'm having a hard time connecting some dots...

Has this been fully vetted and my research is limited since I let someone borrow the books but I can't figure out why the Kingsguard would need to protect Lyanna/ her baby from Ned.

From memory they knew it was Ned that was coming so it appears to be more of a vow to kill Ned than protect Lyanna... Since Aerys was killed was there a reason for Ned to die also?

My first thought was maybe the Kingsguard was there to kill Lyanna but I have zero evidence to support that which leads me to the Kingsguard vow to kill Ned.

Was the order to go to the Tower of Joy post Aerys's death? It does not make since that the "vow" would come from anyone other than Aerys but if he was dead...

I just don't know why they deviated from Arianne and Asha's POV. I don't think it would be all that difficult for Asha and Arianne to be instead present for these scenes (and Arianne actually was). Asha I can understand going to Victarion's POV once he leaves for the East, but not the others. Aeron's first POV is pointless, and skip it on Re-reads.

Rhaegar sent them there. Once Aerys, Rhaegar, and Aegon died they were there defending the king, baby Jon.
