The ironborn in general are idiots. Probably 1 step above a wildling as far as intelligence goes. They only care about raping and plundering.

Yeah, the Ironborn are so stupid. They remind me of a bunch of pirates...surprised that Jack Sparrow hasn't turned up with those idiots. Several POV characters have already said that the Ironborn have no loyalty and no organization, so losing Balon's Rebellion was really no surprise.
The Wildlings aren't dumb persay, they're just more in tune with nature/spirits like Native Americans. They're not modern like those who live south of the Wall but they're certainly not as stupid as the Ironborn.

Who says they won't? I've always seen Randyll as the Roose of the south.
The epilogue of ADWD where he makes it a point to downplay Aegon/Connington always stuck out to me. Remember, the only commander to win a battle for Aerys during the rebellion was Randyll. The Golden Company made mention of friends in the Reach and he may be the one.
