I don't remember what I've mentioned in this thread vs other places, but has anyone heard the theory that Howland Reed is Jojen? Bits and pieces I've garnered here and there state since the TOJ, (supposedly where his destiny was revealed ) Howland began flowing thru time backwards, knowing his ultimate goal was to deliver the next Greenseer to BR and tCotF? Howland was forced to make some sacrifice to save Ned (and Bran by default) using time travel/ magic, causing this reverse flow...

This theory assumes ALOT, one of the major points being Cranogmen are close relatives of tCotF (short in stature, use magic, etc). Another is that Greywater Watch, always moving, but moving back and forth thru time...hence it is hard to find.

I have issues with this, mainly that it redirects the TOJ to be more about Bran than R+L=J. While it does help explain Jojen's sense of impending doom throughout the journey north and Jojen paste, it assumes a lot that doesn't ring very Martin-esque. Maybe it is a nod to the book "Howl's Moving Castle" (1986) but beyond Howl being a wizard and the castle opens portals, I don't see the relevance...I didn't read the book, though. Just plot summary in link.

So Greywater Watch soldiers have access to machine guns and ballistic missiles?

It's an actual island that floats around and moves, and no army has found it to conquer it. I find it strange, though, that Robb sent the two girls there to contact Howland. How do they know where it is?

I think the Reeds are my favorite house. Everything about them is awesome.

This is what I thought initially, but in a world with dragons and other magic an island that happens to float around isn't really a huge stretch.

The Cranogmen ARE related to the Cotf.

Greywater watch was created by CotF magic at the end of the time of heros when they created the Neck in an attempt to keep the Andals out of the north.

The Cranogmen are most closely related to the CotF and the Starks are most closely related to the First Men. They remember the old alliance forged to fight the Others and will honor it again for the same purpose.
