So I just started my first re-read of the series and I don't see how Jon isn't the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna. If he's not, I'm just gonna assume that Martin got pissed people figured it out and changed it to spite us.

Is he truly necessary for the TV show? I mean he's a great character in the books but what does he add that is truly essential?

I think I agree. His two biggest moments were killing the Champion of one of the Slaver Cities (which one that is is slipping my mind) then he eats the honeyed locusts and gets violently sick.

The fight scene outside the gates of Mereen would have been worth it.

The show already has a ton of characters and seem to be introducing more each day. And they haven't even gotten to the Martells or Greyjoys, yet. I don't know how they are going to go about this show after Season 4.

I've read a theory on Westeros that she will end up bringing Gendry back to Dragonstone. He will replace Edric Storm in the books.
