I like the stories about the people of Dorne, Red Viper, Sword of the Morning, Prince Doran's plots, and the sand snakes. I didn't like the whole Quentyn & Oakheart stories.
I enjoyed the chapters of Doran in his court. I enjoyed Arianne trying to run away with Myrcella. I like Areah Hotah.
Dorne was good.
I did not like Quentyn and Oakhart, but that was a Dany story line to me.

Was looking forward to see how the Dark Star and Alleras play into the story, but since they aren't in show can't be to important.
Le sigh
The show =\= the books
I'm not sure why people still think the show is "following the books" if they have been doing it less and less over the course of each season.

I think its worse than that.
There are maesters that apparently only read the books due to interest in the show, and now defend the adaptation at every opportunity.
And some that are incapable of separating the two, assuming the books will reflect the show plot and ending.
That's really too bad.
Of course, there are still fReaders that will never know what they missed, just browsing cliffs notes to try to keep up.
I refuse to let Dildo & Douche ruin some awesome arcs for me because some frigging focus group data analizer says so. I want to follow where 2phat leads, with no concern for production cost or budget constraints.
Ok, Im done.
There will be differences between the ending of the book series and the show. D&D and GRRM have said as much. But the show will absolutely spoil the book. Again, D&D and GRRM have said as much.
Also, I don't mind if people complain the show is leaving out stories which they like. I absolutely love the show, but there is valid criticism to be made (like all movies, books and TV shows). I didn't find Dorne particularly interesting in the books (although it was unquestionably handled more competently), but I understand if people liked it and preferred to see more of that over pointless Sam and Gilly/Grey Worm and MIssandei scenes.
My annoyance with some book readers is when they complain about minor changes and, more importantly, when they assume that anything they haven't already read is D&D going rogue and ruining the story. It's like people forget they are the ones who know how this story will end. We are the ones coming up with wild, mostly baseless theories.

What's wrong with being a Maester who read the books because of the show? Sorry I was a child when the first 3 books were released and in high school when book 4 was released. Sorry I wasn't cool enough to read them 15-20 years ago and hopped the "bandwagon" after I saw the first two seasons.

I read the books after I saw the first episode on HBO.

This pretty much encapsulates my views. Except I have no problem with Sam and Gilly. And actually none with Grey Worm and Missandei since they have seemed to move past the "tragic romance" hints.

Your reading comprehension used to be better than this.

I'm re-listening to ADWD... lady Dustin is up to something.

You should've heard all the bitching over Feast and all the time spent on the Kingsmoot. Now they're like "Oooooooh! Kingsmoot!!"
I mean, I wasn't crazy about how GRRM drug out the Kingsmoot in the books but at the same time it felt a bit rushed on the D&D end (could've used Victarion and could've used some acclimation to who Euron is). But at the same time, the show has done characters like Brienne much better than what's on the page for the majority of her arc to this point.
Both have their pros and cons.

My only real problem with the Kingsmoot was the lack of the dragon-binder horn. I thought that was kinda key to his whole strategy as well as for winning over followers. Without it, the whole thing seemed harebrained and fell a little flat. I do appreciate them for not dragging it out, but I felt like such a small addition would not have added much time.

I'd like to see the horn too. But if the knowledge of all the ships in Mereen being burned has reached Westeros, I think he still has a good argument that he could at least get in very good graces with a restored Targaryen kingdom run by Dany. The idea that she would consent to marry him is a bit more of a long shot of course.

And was likely going to be a long shot with or without the horn given her previous marital experience.
As you said though, it'll be interesting to see her reception when one of the Ironborn show up with ships. Whether it's Theon and Yara or Euron.

Ah, here it is! Was beginning to think this thread was gone!

Holy crap, 1019 pages.
So my crackpot theory is that the key to the retaking of the north will be a fateful meeting in Greywater reach. Meera and Bran flee to where Meera is most safe, in the land of the Craggonmen. The craggonomen were supposedly close to the CotF.
Jon will go there to rally his most loyal family supporter. Jon meets up with Bran, finally. Bran becomes the Stark the others rally around. Howland Reed explains to Jon his real history and we see the second part of ToJ.
I think here he learns his real history and he has trouble accepting it.
At this point guards show up with a captured Jorah Mormont, knowing he was exiled. He speaks with Jon and company. Dragon queen is talked about, Jon reveals he is a Targaryen. Davos reveals both a stockpile of needed dragonglass and the cure for greyscale at Dragonstone. He and Jorah go there.
Jon and Bran lead the Tully, Arryn and Stark loyal forces against Winterfell. I hope Manderlys in the show are Stark loyal, in the books the obviously are.
Ramsay defeated, Jon goes south to claim his ancestral home which Davos has all warm and ready for him. This is where Dany will show up first in season 7 before invading Kings landing.

So does the show confirm that Benjen is cold hands or are D&D just fricking with us since they are to lazy to add another character.
Posted on 5/29/16 at 10:20 pm to Mrtommorrow1987
FWIW, in the original manuscripts, the editors left a note asking if Benjen is Coldhands, to which GRRM responded, "No." Specifically they said "Is this Benjen? I think it's Benjen." He simply wrote back No.
Edit: found the image
This is an archived manuscript that is kept by the Texas State library or something like that. I am not sure how forthright GRRM has to be with the ones asking the questions, so who knows, maybe he is lying. I just don't see how Coldhands can't be Benjen, but hey, I'm not the author, it's his world.

It's not lazy it's just hard to introduce another character. I hope Coldhands is Benjen in the books but I don't think he is.

I'm not sure but this post tells me you don't understand the difference between the two mediums (tv/books)
