Last night, I finished season 1 of Breaking Bad. I have to say, meh. Its talked about on here like it is the greatest drama to ever grace the small screen, but I wouldn't put it ahead of Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire at this point. I can't say that I'd rank it ahead of Mad Men or Walking Dead at this point. To say that Walter is a top 5 character of all time? Come on, man. Really?

Understand that I really felt going in that my opinion would be jaded given the sycophantic praise it gets from certain posters on this board. I mean, how could I help but expect nothing but greatness?

I'm not going to give up on it, but I'm probably going to take a little break to process it and try to go to season 2 more openminded. Netflix is a godsend for this specific purpose. Think I might pick back up with Parks and Rec to clean my pallet. I quit watching that after the first season, but people beyond this board have told me it doesn't really hit it stride until season 2.

Flame away.

It makes the jump from solid to really good in season two.

Just finished season 4.

Shut up and come back after you've made it that far.

If you don't think it's better than walking dead I can't help you

The show is about character development and how these people change. Just remember that as you are watching

You rank Walking Dead ahead of Breaking Bad?

Walking Dead acting is worse than a soap opera. That show is so bad that its funny. Thats why most people watch it.

Breaking Bad gets better and better. Best show on TV since The Wire.

I'm not gonna give up on it. Like I said, I really feel like my opinion was jaded going in.

It won't matter. Just stay away from any and all spoilers. If you made it this far without seeing anything you should be good.

I wouldn't wait for season 2 either. Just keep going. For me, I enjoyed season 1 but the show really kicked in mid-season 2 and has gotten ridiculously better every episode since.

You haven't even met some of the best characters yet

I just hope you haven't been spoiled too much by reading stuff online.

It's a slow burner. The characters develop.

I had the exact same reaction.

And while it is hard for it to live up to the expectations set forth by the fans, it is a very good show.

It's all about the characters, but if you can't enjoy Walt brushing up against, well everyone, then it just might not be your show.

I'm here as well - I have Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Shield as my top 3 hour-long dramas of all time, with Hill Street Blues rounding out the top 4. The Shield is probably my number 1 - I like Mad Men, don't get me wrong, but as a recent show, it trails my top 3 by quite a little bit.

To the OP - you must watch BB until the episode called "Boxcutter" - if you're ready to give up after that, you've given it a fair chance.

I know literally nothing about the show other than what I've seen. I don't read any in game threads or anything. Its just constantly talked about here.

I agree it's nowhere near a top 5 show of all time, and I'm in the middle of season 4

Breaking Bad takes a shite on The Walking Dead. TWD goes from great to can't watch this anymore. Breaking Bad goes from really good to fricking awesome.

My two cents.

if you thought the first season was "meh" you probably wont love the series.

I was hooked after the first episode and it just kept building and building

Probably won't be until they are released on DVD.

Usually they release a month or so before the new season debuts, but with the new upcoming episodes being considered part 2 of season 5 I'm not sure how they'll handle it.
