The Dark Knight is not Nolan's best film. The more we are removed from the release of the movie, the clearer that is. The third act was terrible (the first two acts were near perfect though).

Top Tier
Memento, Prestige, Inception, Batman Begins

Upper Tier
The Dark Knight

Mid-Tier
Interstellar

Lower-Tier
Insomnia and the Following

Unranked
The Dark Knight Rises

Idk how one could call The Prestige, Memento, or Inception overrated.

Unless you're just trying to go against the popular opinion

I disagree with the author's assessment on The Dark Knight Rises, especially when he says things like this:

quote:

And its narrative is incredibly convoluted, with Nolan kinda-sorta half-assing a statement on Occupy Wall Street with no follow through

The script was finished and filming began BEFORE the Occupy Wall Street movement happened. The timing and plot points were purely coincidental. That's why he didn't explore the concept.

That's sort of the definition of overrated. The critical consensus on those three films is that they are excellent, and maybe among the very best films ever. If you do not believe this to be the case, they are, by definition, overrated.

I think he's wrong to call them overrated, but the logic holds up. I think they absolutely are worthy of this rating, but I can see the argument against it.

Ok, is this is a new thing? I've always seen people post full articles on here.

I had an admin edit mine a couple of times, but I kept adding the text back. I complained about it on Help board, because you don't know who is doing edits most times, so I questioned the why. I acted an arse and took a four month ban. Since then I had article linking down. Same format everytime pretty much.

Teaser of article, image from article and then link with title instead of "link"

8 The Dark Knight Rises
7 Insomnia
6 Interstellar
5 The Dark Knight
4 Batman Begins
3 Memento
2 The Prestige
1 Inception

Really, reeeeeally tough to separate the top 3. The first time I watched each of them was a "wow" moment.

The Dark Knight wasn't even a good movie.

Batman Begins is actually a good flick. It had the better villain and better actor as well.

Ledger as the Joker is possibly the best villain of all time.

6. The prestige
5. Memento
4. Batman begins
3. Interstellar
2. The dark knight
1. Inception

At #7 for me, the dark knight rises is still s very good movie, only in comparison to the rest of Nolan's work is it below average.

Absolutely

It's easily in the bottom half of Nolan films. I don't think it's any better than TDKR, and certainly isn't better than the other Batman movies.

Meh

Memento is fricking fantastic. The Prestige, BB, TDK, and Interstellar are all really good.

Completely agree.

It tries to be too much and when someone or something is trying too hard it takes away from the person or thing.

Intersteller should get more praise for the technical aspects. They did ground breaking work in the field of physics with Kip Thorne for Christ's sake.
Scientific American

That is ON THE SCREEN. All for the sake of a movie.
Kudos for that..

Whatever your particular rankings as long as Memento and the Prestige are at the top of your list and TDKR is at or next to the bottom I'll co-sign.

As an engineer with a huge interest in physics, it was quite a breath of fresh air to see a film tackle the "truth is stranger than fiction" aspects of modern physics.

Minor spoiler
The whole part where they lose years on their mission because of an hourly detour on a planet in a high gravitational field is a pretty awesome thought experiment.

Then again, you have to ask yourself why would they even consider a planet orbiting a supermassive black hole as a future home for the human species

i'm surprised people are ranking interstellar as high, just due to the fact it polarized people at the time of.

i love it even though it's an incredibly flawed movie. 2 hours and 45 minutes of it are some of the greatest moments of film, then 15 minutes of bullshite, followed by mediocre to good closing.

disagreed with the article in the OP on two points.

Mann's deception was important. While Brand and Coop were truly out there for the good of mankind, Mann showed that even in space there's selfishness and evil.

I also think the meeting between Coop and his daughter was fine. He got to see her, they reconciled. There was no reason to stay when she had her family there to spend her last few breaths with. it showed Coop's character arc from only about my family to going out to Brand and continue the human race.

aside from that, list is a ok. prestige and momento are two of the most original endings in film in a long time. and should be up at top.
