What will make B&tB more successful. Cinderalla is probably the most popular fictional princess of all time, the movie had good reviews, and it made about 550mil. What makes many think B&tB will more than double the haul of Cinderella? Emma Watson is much more well known than Lily James, so that is a start.

A couple of reasons:

1) Beauty and the Beast is widely regarded as Disney's masterpiece.
2) Maleficent wasn't good and preceded Cinderella by a year.
3) Cinderella is much more of a girly movie than Beauty and the Beast.
4) The Jungle Book was simply amazing and makes people really want to give this movie the benefit of the doubt.
5) Superior cast

I still think 1B is a crazy number for this.

The Jungle Book was only 35 million short of a billion. The fact that that movie precedes it is heavily to this movie's favor in getting well past the billion mark.

This and the fact that Beauty and the Beast carries with it a nostalgia factor. Its target audience isn't just kids. It's also adults who were kids when they saw Beauty and the Beast in theaters just over 25 years ago (adults such as myself).

Cinderella was released in the 50s. The live action version did not carry with it the same level of nostalgia that will drive Beauty and the Beast at the box office next month.

They made a Cinderella in 2015? Never heard of it.

I saw The Jungle Book and I will go see Beauty and the Beast in theaters when it comes out.

It'll hit a billion but not much more, IMO. It won't beat Star wars. Heck, it might not even beat Fast & Furious or GOTG.

It's a tale as old as time.

It's definitely going to hit $1B IMO. Plus it's coming out in March with basically no competition.

Yep. Didn't see Cinderella and don't plan to. Enjoyed JB on Blu Ray and will see BatB in the theater.

Cinderella was actually pretty good. It was basically a live-action version of the animated film, without the musical numbers. Maleficent was a hot mess. You don't take Disney's most famous female villain and turn her good. So far the trailers for Beauty and the Beast look awesome. It doesn't appear that they've monkeyed with the story like they did with Maleficent. The cast is first-rate and hopefully they can sing well because, unlike Cinderella, Maleficent, and Jungle Book, this movie will be a true musical like the original.

Emma Watson's nude scene should push it over the 1B mark.

The timing of B&B is perfect. The girls that fell in love with this movie at 10-14 yrs old now have children that are that age.

Cinderella is a different case in that it was released in 1950 and doesn't quite have the nostalgia with parents born in the 80s.

Emma Watson, Ewan McGregor, Ian McKellan, Emma Thompson along with the nostalgia factor for people my age will send this way over the top.

Maleficent is a lot more iconic than Ursula, although the latter was a great villain. Ursula was both evil and funny. Maleficent was just evil.

My wife is a Disney movie fanatic but hated the 2015 live action Cinderella because of how different it is to the original.

Based off of the trailers, this beauty and the beast look to follow the original very closely
