Chuck Connors as the Rifleman

Just caught an episode and wondered what the body count was over the life of that show. Lucas McCain must have killed 50 men or more. No outrage at all by the townsfolk.
Another observation, it's interesting how they can create drama and solve it all within a half hour. Are there any 30 minute dramas these days?

I watched Steve McQueen's Wanted Dead or Alive a few months ago, and I think he could easily match that. And his show only ran three years.
BTW are we counting Indians? That would affect some show totals.

One of my favorite shows as a kid. There was never a shortage of bad guys; Western justice at it's finest.

Connor played professional baseball and professional basketball before becoming an actor.

People say that Connors was the first NBA player to shatter a backboard. Wiki says that's misleading:
quote:
However, the first NBA player to shatter a backboard, Chuck Connors (who would become far more famous as an actor), did not do so with a dunk. When playing for the Boston Celtics in 1946, Connors took a set shot during pregame warmups, hitting the front of the rim. Because an arena worker had failed to place a protective piece between the rim and backboard, the backboard shattered.

He was pretty innocuous, though, as a Boston Celtic:

Is there a casualty list for Gunsmoke?
Matt Dillon greased them for 20 years.
