A classic comedy bit from Dave Chapelle.

In Prince's honor. RIP, Prince.

Classic. I think that is a whole generation's primary, if not only, exposure to Prince.

I don't think I hated one sketch on the Chappelle show, not one. I'll never forget the first time I saw the N family one, to this day, I don't think I've ever laughed that hard in my life.

I don't know if anybody under 24 or so can appreciate just how huge Chappelle's Show was circa 2004'-05'. You could go anywhere and here people yelling Chappelle's Show lines. We were literally at a bowling alley one night and almost everybody in the building started yelling Lil Jon/Chappelle quotes. It was like it just echoed throughout the building because every other lane was yelling quotes at each other.

If you went out to the club, everybody was shouting it at each other, intramurals, movie theaters...literally everywhere college aged people were. It was an incredible phenomenon and ended so suddenly.

Almost every episode was a classic. I can still remember almost all of them, but the 3 sketches that put that show in the stratosphere were Rick James, Prince, and Lil Jon ones. Then you had classic like the Black White Supremecist, When Keepin It Real Goes Wrong, Wayne Brady, The Racial Draft, The Ni**er Family, Tyrone Biggums, Black Bush, etc, etc, etc.

I still have never seen another show hit a home run every single episode (Seinfeld/Curb are close). It was truly a genius program, I'm just glad I was the perfect age and in the perfect environment to enjoy it at it's fullest.

Don't forget classic skits like When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong, World Series of Dice, Wife Swap, and the R. Kelly stuff.

It's probably my favorite show of all time because, like you said, they were pretty minx batting 1.000 with every skit and show they put out. Not to mention the fact the show was dealing with serious issues like race and cultural relations and making them funny.

I quote that show a lot in social situations, and it bums me out that a lot of the references have been forgotten outside of the Rick James skit. Back in the early 2000s that show was everywhere, and everyone was talking about it. I hate this phrase, but it really was a pop culture phenomenon.

The best part about the skit.....

It actually happened in real life

LINK

Prince confirmed it...and later on used this as the cover art for a single he released in 2013 called "Breakfast Can Wait"

quote:

Chappelle discussed the cover photo on “The Tonight Show” in 2014.

“That's a Prince judo move right there... you make fun of Prince in a sketch and he'll just use you in his album cover," the comedian told Fallon.

quote:

"What am I going to do — sue him for using a picture of me dressed up like him?... That's checkmate right there."

Not only was Prince an amazing musician....the man had an awesome sense of humor.

There's only 1 skit I ever found to be not funny, and that's thanks to John Mayer.
