Cartoons: Clone Wars, The Clone Wars, The Clone Wars movie....question!

I have never seen any of them. Wikipedia says the 2003 series happened at the same time as the 2008 series. Is it just a reboot from old style cartoon to digital cartoon? Do I need to watch both?
Do I need to definitely watch the movie before starting the series?
Thanks!

2003 series was awesome. Definitely watch it if nothing else.

Netflix doesn't have it. They have the 2008-2014 series and the film before it.

Do you know the answers to my questions?

That's unfortunate. I can't remember exactly, as I haven't seen a lot of the 2008 series, but I don't believe they are a reboot. the 2003 series is before AotC. For some reason I thought the 2008 series was sometime between AotC and ROTS, but I may be wrong.

That's how I remember it too. And I agree that 2003 series was pretty good.

The 2003 series did such a good job of actually showing how powerful Anakin was becoming as well as the agitation between him and the rest of the Jedi.

I've never seen the 2003 series since it's not canon, but have heard good things about it.
I would definitely suggest the 2008 series to anyone interested in Star Wars, very good cartoon. No I believe it's not a reboot.
Here's a chronological list order of the series, when they were originally released they weren't released chronologically.

I'd suggest watching it this way just so the episodes all make sense and flow together.

Definitely check out the 2003 series. Even though it isn't canon, it really does improve the universe. It was very well done.

The 2008 series starts out as a kids cartoon and then develops into a great adult series. 100% recommended.

I never saw the 2003 series but loved the 2008 series.
Im guessing the 2003 series isnt canon since the 2008 series is.
ETA: To answer you questions, start with the movie and then the 2008 series.

2003 was just a mini-series leading up to Revenge of th Sith. The very last episode shows the kidnapping of Palpatine. The beginning of ROTS shows Anakin and Obi-Wan rescuing Palpatine immediately after in the space above Coruscant. It is done in kind of anime hand-drawn style.
The 2008 series really begins with the CGI cartoon movie that was shown in theaters around the same time. It lasts 6 seasons. Both take place between AOTC and ROTS, but They are very different in tone. They don't reference each other at all either, though both are canon.
The 2008 series is far better and worth watching (though the cartoon movie preceding it sucks). You aren't missing much by missing the 2003 cartoon mini-series.

The 2003 mini-series also depicts Grievous as a much fiercer and terrifying warrior than either the movie or the 2008 series does. He kills Jedi left and right in the 2003 series, quick as lightning and appearing out of nowhere. He turns out to be a little bitch in the movie as well as in the 2008 series.

Well, his character was supposed to be that way. He got all his lightsabers from killing Jedi. In the movie, he was basically dying, from stuff that happened in the mini series. I agree thought that they did not do him justice in the movie, and thus the 2008 series used that as their launching point for him.

Good points. Mace Windu force crushed his breastplate while he was kidnapping Palpatine, crushing his lungs. So that is why he is coughing and weeker in ROTS.

Yep. He should have been done better in the movie for sure, but I just saw his character as an injured animal type thing, constantly moving because they know they are weak, but god help you if you corner them.

I've never seen the 2003 version but I really liked the 2008 one.

Just started the Clone Wars after watching that miniseries back in 2003. It focuses some on the Clones and all and it has flaws, but for the most part it is very enjoyable. Anakin Skywalker is actually tolerable now without Hayden Christensen
