You're out of your mind if you don't think Maria Bamford is funny. At minimum, you're incorrect about that. Maria Bamford is one of the funniest comedians working, male or female.

You've obviously never seen Maria Bamford, Anjelah Johnson, Tig Notaro, etc.

Bingo.

It almost seems like a conspiracy theory. The actual funny female comedians who don't toe the "female line," are usually obscure. I know it isn't like some cabal doesn't want them to be famous, but it's almost as if the primary audience of a female comedian WANT the really lame gender-focused comedy ONLY.

It's like Dave Chapelle all over again.

maybe they're not friends with enough comics? that can hurt your national popularity a bit

This thread is the living embodiement of her 12 Angry Men sketch. Beautiful performance art, y'all.

no shite, it got surreal in here.

i like her well enough. her standup is hit and miss but i think she hits more.

but what i like in comics (and people that for that matter) is in and around a group of comics, she's quick. quick don't lie.

kurt metzger is one of her head writers and he needs to be more famous.

I think her stand up is terrible, and her show is only slightly better. She can be a decent writer, but I have to turn the channel whenever she gets in front of the camera. I don't find her attractive at all, and that is unrelated to how funny or not funny I find her.

Tig Notaro, Kathleen Madigan, and Maria Bamford are amazing comedians, btw.

I think her stand up is decent enough. It's kind of cliche but I think she's alright.

She's one of only two female comedians I appreciate much at present, the other being Natasha Leggero.

Whitney Cummings, who seems to be on the radio a ton, is fricking awful IMO.

Kathleen Madigan rarely pushes "female issues" and she is one of the top comics working today. Neither does Tig Notaro, and she's revered amongst comedians (though her "overnight" success took 20 years and is tied to her amazing "cancer set"). Maria Bamford deals far more with mental issues because of her personal experience. Trying to say all female comics only deal with "women issues" shows a complete ignorance of female comics working.

This is where I plug Morgan Murphy for general bad-assery.

madigan and murphy are both outstanding. i laugh every time i listen to sarah silverman but she rarely pops in my head as one of the "go-to" names.

wait what? i don't keep up with her personal life, but as of last year she hadn't ever fricked a black guy before (she stated it on a podcast)

Really? It just seems like everytime someone starts an Amy Schumer thread this comes up. I must be thinking of a different white comedienne.

No no I agree, but they are largely ignored compared to Shumer (who isn't bad), Handler (who is), Lampanelli, etc. And the other funny types - Wiig, Poehler, etc. - usually have to find a way to break out outside of Stand-Up.

I just feel that when you hear "female standups," most people are thinking about the terrible ones, the famous ones, which are rarely the best.

(Of course, Dane Cook was famous once, so there's that.)

I thought he was a better actor than stand up. I liked him in Mr. brooks.
