Watched it today. Pretty enjoyable as long as you don't go in expecting too much, which was tough to do knowing it was a Coen brothers film.

It was a big disappointment for me given the quality of the cast.

With that being said, there are a handful of hysterical scenes which are on part with the best the Coens have ever made.

I like it a lot. I have it as an upper tier Coen film. It was different, but the pieces worked. It was supposed to be silly - a spy thriller with nothing at stake, nothing and nobody was saved and nothing was learned.

About ordinary, mundane folks in D.C.

I agree, but all the performances were great - the Coens are "actors'" directors, which is why they tend to get elevated performances - particularly considering either the silly tone or subject matter of many (not all) of their films.

The best scene of the entire movie, imo, is at the very beginning when Malkovich gets canned. Had me rolling.

I watched the movie for the first time a couple of weeks ago. That scene got me in a totally different mood. That's when it went from goofy to being pretty dark. The suddenness of the shift was itself pretty funny.

I guess if you are expecting greatness like Lebowski or No Country then you might be disappointed, but I still thought it was very enjoyable. Same for The Ladykillers. Even bad Coen brothers movies and pretty fricking good. It seems like Netflix added a bunch of Coen brothers movies on this last update. I also rewatched Oh Brother Where Art Thou recently.

Love it. Very underrated. JK Simmons was great as the CIA Superior.

CIA Superior: The Russians?
CIA Officer: Mmm-hmm.
CIA Superior: The Russians?
CIA Officer: Mmm-hmm, Russian Embassy.
CIA Superior: Are you sure?
CIA Officer: Hey, the guy was not hard to follow, as you know.
CIA Superior: Why the frick would they go to the Russians? Why the frick?
