I think they were horrible people.

The type of parents who care more about achievement than the child. Childhood must have been hell on Jesse. He was probably always trying to measure up to their expectations with very little love and affection from them. I think they felt it was easier to dismiss Jesse instead of trying harder to reach out to him like real parents should. They said to themselves "Well, let's just focus on our other boy"....and it's apparent that the younger brother is feeling the same pressure and misery just like Jesse did....and looking for an outlet (smoking weed)

Why else would Jesse gravitate towards Walt and Mike so easily? Not to mention his aunt whom he valued so much as well.

Not to say Jesse is without fault, but their relationship was broken long before Jesse turned bad.

Jesse buying that house behind their backs was classic..

One of my best friends grew up in the same situation. His older brother was always messed up and in and out of jail. Finally his parents gave up and left him in jail for about 2 years. It's tough to judge anyone in that situation.

They were successful at many things, except being great parents.

They had no idea how to emotionally connect to their children.

Jesse was a grown man. He was mixed up in the drug scene. He sought help, but usually did so half-heartedly. Although his aunt said he could stay in the house, it actually belonged to his parents. When he started that meth lab in it, it put his parents in the line of fire from the authorities.

I would have been the same way as Jesse's parents until he had shown that he could be sober and an active participant in society for at least a year or two.

Let's not forget the fact that Jesse was a murderer and condoned murder by others.

There were plenty of times he could have "taken the money and run".

it hit home because its literally my parents to a T execpt the roles are reversed. when my parents found out about my drug addiction my dad, who smokes weed and drinks but isn't a drug addict, was pretty supporting and understanding, my mom would not let me in her house for years. like i didn't even know my mom had moved for like 3 years.

i can also relate as far as the younger brtoher because the second my mom had my sister it's like she forgot i existed and that hurt i tell my sister all the time she dont' know how good she has it, but my mom had me at 19 and had my sister at 36 so there is a learning curve

usually the oldest is always the most fricked up

Jesse had obviously pushed them over the edge.

I just knew Jesse was gonna ask his brother to play some Jethro Tull when he saw that flute or piccolo or whatever. Lol

I always saw them as parents who probably tried over and over again to help Jesse, but he always screw up again. Eventually they lost hope and gave up on him. I never really saw them as bad people. That being said I found the scene where Jesse shows his parents that he bought the house was one of the best in the series.

Jesse wasn't motivated by money and to quote the departed, you cannot do anything with a person like that. His parents thought conventionally, go to school, get a job and raise a family.

In the end, He just was looking for a father figure in Walt or Mike.

I know somebody just like Jesse except he's a heroin addict. He has ruined his dad's life.

There are vastly more of these than there are Jesse's out there. Not too many likable junkies. Parents look like they tough loved him and when that failed they cut him out. The treatment of the little brother shows you that they probably were not great parents.

Jesse was a problem and had burned his parents time and again when they had extended themselves to help him. They were frustrated and felt like there was nothing that they could do for him. He would just continue backsliding and betraying their trust. So they did the only thing they knew how to do. They cut him off because they wanted to protect their other son from his influence. It was the last preventive measure that they knew to take.

Jesse was a world class frick up. He was a meth head and dealer long before he ever met Walter and Mike.

It's already been mentioned but it's hard to fault them. As the viewer we want to side with Jesse because we like him and are familiar with him, and they are in opposition to him pretty much at every turn. But similar to the whole skyler debate, honestly did they act irrationally if this was real life? They tried time and time and time again with him and he kept betraying their trust, at some point you just cut em loose.

If not, you're just enabling them and their further downward spiral.

Like a lot of parents with immature adult age kids who won't take responsibility for themselves, I view them as simply having had enough.

Jane reminded me of Olive Oyl too much:

Could not get passed that...never liked her storyline. Walt did us a favor.
