I liked it, though I haven't seen it in a while. At first it was cool to like this movie, now it's apparently cool to hate it. Lots of cool kids trying to keep up in this thread.

It was a good vigilante action flick, whose popularity stems largely from it getting no theater play.

I think the backlash from the fanboy hype has resulted in this movie being overly hated now. It's decent for an action movie. I mean it's no worse than something like Dredd, which has a thread full of people calling it "fantastic" and "great".

Dredd is a good comparison to the movie for quality. I just watched Saints again the other day for the first time in several years. It was alright, definitely not great. I know a couple people who find it very quotable. Never really got the obsession for the movie.

No. No. No.

BD Saints is an unintentional dark comedy. Defoe dancing around, the "family prayer" shtick... it's just a bad action movie.

Dredd has a lot more going for it and doesn't have the unintended laughs.

I don't think it's unintentional bro

They're both mediocre, mindless action movies. What Dredd lacks in your perceived unintentional laughs it makes up for with the terrible repetitive slow mo shots

eta: My general point was about hyperbole related to fanboy backlash. I don't see how a movie like Dredd is "fantastic" and "great" to the movie/tv board but this movie is just unbelievably terrible.

It's fun to watch, but only d-bags think it's a "classic."

It's popcorn shlock... it was reasonably unique when it came out 12 years ago and attracted a cult following of teenagers and young adults.

The cult status of this film faded long ago in my opinion.

They still draw big crowds at New Orleans Comic Con. But I think the general public that was interested has lost interest. The hardcore fans still care.

Agreed. I was told by a guy at work how AWESOME this movie was. Even though I was suspicious, I watched it anyway. Suspicions confirmed, the movie sucked and the guy is stupid.

This movie, it sucks.

You had it see it back in 2000... I doubt many first-time viewers in 2013 would like it.

I thought that it was great when I saw it the first time when I was 14. I saw it again a couple of years ago, and I was really disapointed. It isn't a horrible movie or anything. It has some clever and funny moments. It just has some tropes that rub me as silly or cheesy in the few moments where it tries to be serious.

I think I was more so just let down because I had unrealistically high memories built up by nostalgia. I guess this was one of those movies from childhood that I shouldn't have revisited.

And of course someone brought up a great comedy that gets hated on this board, the hangover.

Mostly because of its popularity.

I never understood the love for this movie. Go watch the documentary Overnight to see how big of a douche the director was.
