Really enjoyed both of them...

Looking for something else to get into...I've heard good things about "Ready Player One", but I'm not sure it's really up my alley...I've also been told to read "Devil in a White City"...

All suggestions welcomed

Read Devil in the White City. I cannot recommend that book highly enough. It's history, but it reads like a novel.

Devil In the White City is great.

Much better than 11/22/63, which I thought was just okay. It had potential, but just too many plot holes for me. But I guess that's typical of King.

All 4 books of the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini. It's the fantasy series about Eragon.

As much as i like the series as a whole, it started off great and then dove off a cliff near the end (specifically the last book). I can't help but wonder if he changed the way some of those plot lines ended because fans guessed where he was going with it. There were some real head scratching moments in the last 100 pages of the final book.

"The Martian"

I don't normally like reading fiction, but I started that one within the last week. It's great so far, and so easy to read since it's mostly log entries so far. Normally I find reading to be a chore, but I am really enjoying this one and actually look forward to taking shits (that's when I read).

Highly recommend Devil in the White City.

I'm currently dipping into Natchez Burning right now and it's solid as well.

City of Thieves

quote:

City of Thieves is a 2008 historical fiction novel by David Benioff. Both a coming of age story and a black comedy, City of Thieves recounts World War II adventures of two young men in the Leningrad area as they desperately search for a carton of eggs for a Soviet NKVD officer during the German siege of the city.

David Benioff is the co-creator and showrunner for Game of Thrones

The Book of Bunny Suicides by Andy Riley.

What? It's technically a book.

On a more serious note, if you are from Louisiana and haven't yet, check out All The King's Men by Robert Warren. It is an old book but I find a lot of people haven't heard of it before, which is shocking as hell. I really wish it could get on the required reading list for Louisiana history courses.

I can agree with all of that. I felt Galbortix's demise was a real wtf moment and not how I wanted to see that storyline end. I also felt like the post Galbortix part of the book was a real blur. Like "Ok, let's just tidy this up and finish this mother fricker". I really wish we could get another series following Eragon into the unknown lands, but he's already said that isn't happening.

At least we will get to read what happens next in Alagasia though. It's a start I guess.

The Orphan Master's Son
Adam Johnson

Crazy yarn involving North Korea and why you don't want to live there. It won the coveted Pulitzer...so you know it's good.

Ready Player One is a great read, too.

Do it! I'd recommend Erik Larson's other works as well

Definitely read Devil in the White City. Ready Player One is a tough one to recommend. I enjoyed the book and the premise is fun, but the book is terribly awkward and the conflict resolutions come way too easy.

Devil in the White City is very good.

A few I'll throw out (all over the map for genre):

Rising Tide: The Great Mississippi Flood of 1927 and How it Changed America
December 6 - Martin Cruz Smith (think Casablanca set in Japan the day before Pearl Harbor)
Population 451 - Michael Perry
American Gods - Neil Gaiman
Jitterbug Perfume - Tom Robbins
Fields of Fire - Jim Webb
