For fans of urban fantasy, check out The Iron Druid Chronicles...

For fans of urban fantasy like The Dresden Files or the Peter Grant series, check out Kevin Hearn's Iron Druid Chronicles. I picked up the first book a couple of days ago and am burning through it like I would a Dresden book. Good pacing, the main character is a lot of fun, his decisions make sense (as much sense as you can have when your lawyers are a vampire and a pack of werewolves) and the author really has a good time with the Celtic lore and mythos.
Full disclosure: I'm a biiiig fan of the Dresden series so comparing anything to it favorably is about the highest praise I can give.

I am a big Dresden fan. I will take a look.

I've listened to some of the audiobooks, and Dresden is a good comparison. It's also an interesting take on celtic mythology, and the concept that various deity groups can interact with each other.

I just bought the first book now based on my love for Dresden Files and your comments. Could use a Dresden substitute with Butcher taking way longer on the latest book.

Amen, bruhthuh! I've gone through quite a few poor substitutes. Aaronivitch's Rivers of London series is good enough for me to keep an eye out for the next one (I'm liking seeing the main character learning about and developing his powers from Day 1, just wish I had known about the other books along with the series ahead of time =/ ), but so far Iron Druid is the best substitute for Dresden.

Bard, thanks again...bought this yesterday afternoon on audible and I'm on chapter 4 or 5, I really like his Irish Wolfhound ! The book and action starts immediate and he throws you into the world with all of the Faye and magic, there seems to be no slow reveal...which parts of me like but parts do not. But I'm already strapped in for the ride.

Glad you're enjoying it! Just started book 2 last night

Solid series except the last book was lacking imo. Audiobooks are narrated really well

Book 3 in the Iron Druid has been my favorite so far, I have also read the Aeronauts Cutless and enjoyed it as well

I read the first one and then moved on. Is the rest of the series better?

There is more character development and a larger Arch for the main characters..But if you do not like the people "good guys" already and are not intrigued by the sort of celtic gods in the first book I would move along.

Picked up a series called "I bring the fire" and it Reminded me of this thread. I think the whole series is free on book bub. Loki is the main character-He is in modern times but in the book he does some between worlds travel. This Loki is a trickster but he is extremely likeable. Funny, neat meshing of current times and Norse mythology. Great beach read.
ETA. I'm now on book 7 and they are still fun :-)

Huge Iron Druid fan, since I am the main character and all...

Finally got around to starting these, Bard. Funnier than Dresden, IMO. But yea, they are essentially the same. And that's not bad at all. Finishing book 2 now.

I have all Dresden and Iron Druid on audio. Dresden is pretty solid with the exception of a few misses. Luke Daniels does an awesome job with the Druid books, but the series is starting to trail off, which is disappointing. I hope it picks back up.
