Boardwalk Empire help

I watched seasons 1-3 when they came out, but dropped HBO for a while and didn't watch seasons 4-5.
I now have HBO GO so I wanted opinions of the last 2 seasons. How do they stack up to the first 3? Worth my time to watch? I enjoyed the show for the most part though it did have some storylines that got old after a while.

3 is the show's peak and as good as television gets, but 4 is also very good
got cancelled after S4 and they had to use an abridged, 8 episode format for Season 5, which fricked everything up. they had to accelerate the time and it just didn't have the magic of the earlier seasons. very depressing to read all the plans they had. for what it is, though, it was still good

Gyp Rossetti was my favorite secondary character of the entire series

I mean, I get why people liked him but I thought he was a bad fit.
To answer the OP, it is absolutely worth finishing all the way through. The show is an all-timer even though it didn't get a chance to reach its full potential and there was some dropoff in the final season. The finale was one of the greatest ever.

The finale was great and may be in the minority but I enjoyed the flashbacks in the final season. Great series.

I thought that the last couple of seasons got a little cheesy and contrived feeling. I guess 4 had some cool moments. I didn't like flashbacks to Nucky's childhood and coming up that they had in 5.

No way, great series, you need to watch it. The Nucky flashbacks really helped flush out his character.

Started binge watching Boardwalk a little while ago and we just finished Season 3 as well. I'm glad this topic was posted because I had the same questions after watching S3. Wow, that was great tv! I'm so glad Gyp got taken care of, that sumbitch was really getting on my nerves. The only thing I liked him for was finally killing Jimmy's bitch of a mother.

I agree with all this. While S5 was not as good as the first 4 seasons, it's still a lot better than most shows. Boardwalk is one of my favorite all-time series.

I'm sorry but season 5 was an atrocity. It had no purpose and honestly almost ruined the whole series for me.
