It's seriously timeless. Maybe the highest rewatch value of any movie ever. I always laugh my head off every single time I watch it.

I've seen that movie easily 25+ times and I'm not ashamed to say it. It has to be the funniest movie I've ever seen and one of the very, VERY few films that stands the test of time. Mel Brooks is a fricking genius and it'll be a travesty when he passes away.

"Are we awake?"
"That depends, are we... black?"

I actually prefer Young Frankenstein in the Brooks pantheon.

GOAT comedy for me goes to either A Fish Called Wanda or Get Shorty.

But I prefer farces to satire, so...

ETA: I do love satire, and Get Shorty is a satire/farce.

Leonard was the king of farce, only surpassed by the God of farce: John Cleese.

"Authentic frontier gibberish!"

If you can make it through the campfire scene without at least smiling you are dead inside.

I have had to walk out of a theater 4 times due to uncontrollable laughter eventually disturbing the clientele.

That scene was one of them.

No way this movie could be made today.

Exactly. Brooks has been quoted numerous times that because of all the PC out there now, he could never make this movie today. Just goes to show what could be lost with PC run wild. Agreed, Young Frankenstein & Blazing Saddles top of my list of best comedies. What really made both for me is that there were not just 1-2 main actors, both films were full of great actors & scenes & lines. As in Young Frankenstein's :"What hump?"

I think if everyone in America sat down and watched this at the same time, our social issues would be cured.

It's one of the funniest movies ever. That scene when Tagart pulls the handcar out of the quicksand and leaves the boys to their fate gets me every time. Then when they manage to drag themselves out of the quicksand:

Taggart: Break's over, boys. Don't just lay there gettin' a suntan, ain't gonna do you no good anyhow. Now take this shovel and put it to some good use.
[Bart grabs a shovel and advances on Taggart from behind]
Charlie: Don't do it, Bart.
Bart: Uh-uh, baby, I have to.
Taggart: [to Lyle] Now send a wire to the main office and tell them that I said
[Bart whacks him]
Taggart: OW.
Lyle: Send wire, main office, tell them I said ow, gotcha.
