Watched the entire thing today, had only ever seen bits and pieces when I was a kid.
Damn what a great movie...
The 80s were so glorious. Russell was such a great "hero buffoon" and Kim Cattrall was fricking smoke show in it.
80s John Carpenter is awesome

Only seen it once about 5 years ago.
Don't have any intention on seeing it again.
Seemed terrible.

I hope David Lo Pan haunts your dreams. Jack Burton is an American Icon.

I've tried several times. Could never get into it. Haven't made it more than 15 mins.

It's one of those that you had to see as a kid first to love. I've loved it for years. It actually used to be a staple at sleepovers for my friends and I. Watching it as an adult now with my kids it's different but I still love it. Their reaction was not surprising. They weren't sure what they just watched but still liked it. Man the 80's had great movies. Watching many of them back now I'm amazed my mom let me watch some of them. Between the language and content of many of those great movies it's crazy, they would never be rated the same today.

It's John Carpenter's magnum opus.

I listened to a bit of the DVD commentary with Russell and Carpenter and they said something to the effect of "you can tell a lot about somebody if they got the humor in the movie or not"
I think some might not even realize it's a comedy or has big comedic overtones.
As you stated though, most don't know what the hell they just watched.
I guess it just blended too many genres.

It's one of my all time favorite movies. There's nothing about it I don't love.

I just love it that's it's all this ridiculousness in Chinatown with Raiden like guys, ninjas at war, and a sorceror, then you just have Kurt Russell in the middle of it all dropping one liners left and right

I would look good in this tank
