Going out with a bang? TV's highest-rated sitcom may soon be on its way out, as The Big Bang Theory's head honchos appear to have an end date in mind.

Steven Molaro, showrunner for the hugely popular CBS comedy series, told The Hollywood Reporter that the producers are eyeing season 10 as its probable final run. Big Bang is currently airing its ninth season.

When asked whether the season that’s set to premiere in fall 2016 would be the end of the road, Molaro said, "I think so. I can't speak to the future or on behalf of the cast or where we'll be then, but it's certainly possible that it could go past that."

"The reality is that maybe season 10 is the ending point," he continued. "The real answer is, I don't know, and all I can do right now is go episode to episode and try to make each one the best that we can. There's still so many episodes to go. Even if hypothetically season 10 was the end, I wouldn't be focusing on that yet. That seems like something that would be dealt with way down the line."

Co-creator Chuck Lorre told THR that he was not yet sure when the show would call it quits.

"I'm not going to presume to know how many years this has because it's ridiculous for me to guess," Lorre said. He added that the show's success had "already gone beyond my wildest dreams."

Big Bang, which is currently TV's No. 1 sitcom in the coveted 18-49 demo, delighted fans last week when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) lost their virginities to each other. The show is currently renewed through season 10, with the show's three main cast members — Johnny Galecki (Leonard), Kaley Cuoco (Penny) and Parsons — signing huge three-year deals in August 2014, likely landing them each $1 million per episode, according to THR.

Everyone that watches this show needs to reveal it here so I can know whose opinions to disregard about all things Movie/TV

I quite honestly thought this show ended several years ago.

Friends only got 10 years? So why not? Stories are starting to dry up.

Here's my thing. Any time this type of thing comes up, the show supporters will say something like "I know it's not a GREAT show, but I don't care. I just like to have it on in the background for something I don't have to think about and can get a few chuckles out of".

And that's all well and good. But a show can be somethign mindless to have on the screen without being utter garbage, which BBT is. Within that "18-49 demographic", I'd be VERY interested in seeing what the numbers are between 18-33 year olds and 34-49 year olds. I imagine it's a pretty stark contrast.

I vehemently disagree. The show has always been an overt insult to audiences. It aims for merely pretending to be intelligent, and the characters are simple, awful archetypes that anyone with any sort of soul would embarrassed to play.

But it makes people feel smart when they watch it because they hide their sex jokes behind long words.

I never understand why people say this about people who watch it. I don't know anyone who watches it and acts like it makes them feel smart

I don't watch the show episode for episode but I've seem them here and there. And not once did I think "I must be smart to watch this show"

How on earth people watch standard sitcoms (BBT,2 1/2 Men and even HIMYM) nowadays has always left me scratching my head.

Just by virtue of you liking TV enough to post on a message board about it means you probably wouldn't talk about TV with people who feel smarter when they watch it.

I was still working retail in South Louisiana when this show first hit the tube, trust me, those people are out there.

Big Bang, which is currently TV's No. 1 sitcom

it's so weird when I hear about shows like this that are the #1 watched show. I've literally, and I mean literally not figuratively, have never met someone that watches BBT. They at least have never admitted it if they did.

I've actually asked fiends and family, "Have you ever watched a single episode of that show?"

"No"

"Know anyone who does watch it?"

"Nope"

who are these people?

Be honest, MIMYM got very stale towards the end. It's not as bad as that other garbage. But I felt like they were spinning their wheels at the end.
