I remember when we got our first VCR- in 1984- and had to decide between VHS and BETAMAX- at the time it was about 50% of my friends had each- but the salesman recommended VHS because he said it seemed that was the direction things were heading. I remember it cost about $400- and was still working into the early 2000's.

Thank goodness no but holy hell have I forgotten how different Disney is from today. Peter Pan is way more violent and dark than I ever recall.

laserdisc was awesome back then. I still have a laserdisc player that I watch the original ANH, ESB, and ROTJ on.

One friend of mine (close friend) had a BMax. We had Wierd Science, Excalibur...and Emmanuelle 4. that was it.

Another friend had laserdisc: American Werewolf in London, Saturday Night Fever only.

To answer the OP...it was prior to 1990.

eta: Commando was part of the Bmax collection, too.

Last betamax film I watched was Princess Bride in the late 90's. That is also the last time I've ever seen a player or tape.
