And this proves they can't be in the same universe....how?

I think letting the DC universe evolve over time on film like Marvel has done, is better than just slapping the two DC icons in one film together never having let that scenario develop over time, it's not very smart, but I am not in the business.

They should go really old and just re-cast Adam West.

I'm ok with this. Ben Affleck gets a bad rap because he sold out and did tons of crappy rom-coms and terrible movies (Daredevil), but I feel like he is an actor who when given good source material can actually do ok.

Marvel HAD to do it that way though because almost no one outside of the world of comic book readers had heard of characters like Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Black Widow before. DC has the advantage of having some of the most recognizable characters in the history of comic books: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, The Flash, etc.

We don't need another standalone Batman movie for a while and it's very unlikely that a standalone Wonder Woman or Flash movie would do enough business to be worth it. So why not just go ahead and put your two most popular and iconic characters in a movie together and introduce the others in a Justice League movie somewhere on down the line?

You apparently weren't at the panel in San Diego when this movie was officially announced.
LOL
No. Sorry I didn't make it to the panel is San Diego

And people being excited about the movie happening doesn't mean they were clamoring for it

I actually don't think Affleck would be that bad from strictly an acting standpoint. I just think he might be too distracting.

Marvel didn't setup who these characters are, they setup the scenario of their partnership, people knew who these characters were.

DC on the other hand was on a hot streak of horrible films. Brand recognition only takes you so far.

I didn't either. I just saw the cell phone videos and read the reports.

Comic book nerds have been clamoring for it since the project was first brought up after the success of Batman '89. It almost happened after Batman Returns but was delayed due to Reeve's accident. And it almost happened again after the disaster that was Batman & Robin but was put on hold again when Nolan became attached to the project in 2003.

I personally don't love it, but take his physique from from The Town mixed with the brooding guy from Argo...I think it's gonna work. It's an interesting choice.

And you are under the assumption that DC has to set up a scenario using a similar model. They do not.

I wouldn't call the bomb that was Green Lantern a "hot streak." Besides that film, and to a lesser extent Superman Returns, DC has done a pretty good job as far as quality goes. Besides The Avengers and Iron Man, the reception of the other Marvel films have been pretty average.

I'm talking about the characters in question.

Superman III, Superman IV, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin. This was not a very good run for these characters.

This Batman Superman film can only hope to be, okay.

What do you base this assumption on? The fact that Superman III, Superman IV, and Batman & Robin were horrible movies?

What I am saying is that DC and Warner Bros are chasing their "The Avengers" and instead of letting the DC cinematic universe develop, they are shooting for the moon and forcing the crossover.

And once again, DC/WB becomes the laughing stock of comic book movies! Nolan was obviously a fricking diamond in the rough.

What will these hacks frick up next? A cup of coffee?

What makes this even worse is that this is the Man of Steel sequel.

Batman and the actor who is portraying him, has now become the big news....... Of the Man of Steel sequel.

I agree. It seems entirely rushed. I was hoping for a good progression of the Superman storyline before we got to a crossover movie. Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for a Batman-Superman movie my whole life, but they've done it at the expense of the MoS story arch.

And this casting of Affleck is pretty terrible.

WB doesn't know what the frick they're doing. This is getting fricking ridiculous.

I bet Nolan is loading up a shotgun right now.

But there is more than one way to develop a cinematic universe. Marvel just happened to invent the process.

And when the villain is announced that will become the big news of the Man of Steel sequel. The same thing happened when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker in The Dark Knight and when Anne Hathaway was cast as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.
