Been watching "Last Man Standing" due to the Streisand effect.

Great show for a network 3 cam.

Writing is good, great characters. I like it.

Only in season one.

I'd have never watched it without the controversy.

Eye candy is top notch as well.

Starting the second season is a little jarring.

Time changed, primary cast members are replaced and things are reset with no transition.

Last Man Standing

Extremely Underrated Sitcom.

Probably the best traditional one on TV.

That was a very good show, but you had to know it's time was limited with a conservative star.

What's the controversy?
eta: I looked it up. So it was a "conservative show" that got cancelled, which angered conservatives.

What's the Streisand effect?
eta: I looked this up as well. So, you're saying you watched the show because of the controversy, thereby negating the network's desire to keep it hidden?

The production company for the show is Fox, but it airs on ABC - ABC didn't renew it because of multiple reasons... and Fox being Fox, pitches a baby fit saying "they cancelled us because we are a conservative show!!! "

Yet when the ball was in their court... even Fox didn't want to take on the cost of the show - because get this: it wouldn't have been profitable!

The Streisand Effect

So really, this doesn't fit, but whatevs

Disclaimer: Last Man Standing was one of my favorite shows on TV, and I can give multiple sources on why it was cancelled if you REALLY want to go down that rabbit hole. Yes it might have been cancelled because it was more conservative, but NO it wasn't cancelled BECAUSE it was conservative, it's all about demographics and advertising

i'm in this camp. it was easier to cancel because it was conservative, but that's not why.

that being said CMT can pick it up and all will be fine.

Loved Home Improvement and love Last Man Standing. Hopefully someone picks it up. Definitely agree on the eye candy.

There's no controversy, all the creators are liberal it wasn't cancelled for being too conservative they made 130 episodes.

Enough of these crackpot theories.

The real reason it was canceled because ABC was able to produce it for dirt cheap, and the contract that was in place with the studio was up and not being renewed. ABC was going to have to pay way more money to keep producing new episodes and they just didn't feel like it was worth it when they could produce cheaper shows.

It happens all the time.

I thought the writing was mostly mediocre, but they did a great job creating characters with a variety of viewpoints. The show was unique in that instead of having one viewpoint and making everyone else a dumb caricature, everyone contributed useful viewpoints, and they also poked gentle fun at everyone. They even found ways for Mike and Ryan to agree occasionally, like when Ryan wanted Boyd vaccinated against Kristin's wishes, and Mike backed him. So they did a great job with the characters and the topics they covered, but the writing wasn't particularly clever.

TL:DR

(not from the show)

I enjoyed it and I don't consider myself politically "conservative". I don't see what all the fuss is about. Frick em if they can't take a joke. People are too sensitive these days.

We always watched Home Improvement, so we gave this a shot when it started. It was okay, but not good enough for us to stay with it after 3 episodes or so.

It got 5 seasons.

Do we really want to list the number of good "liberal" shows that never even sniffed 5 seasons? Much less under a company like Fox?

One thing rare about the show is that you had a mans man playing the patriarch and he was generally proven to the in the right on most episodes. Most dads on tv now days are either effeminate or border line retarded.

100% agree with this. Can anyone else name a show that is currently on that has a white or black straight guy (doesnt have to be christian) who is a family man that is not portrayed as a complete fricking idiot or gay/effeminate ?

Serious question, would like to check out a new show
