I'm sure this has been discussed on here but I just rewatched this thing for the first time in forever and wow, what a weird take on this universe.

There's some really cool stuff in here but the whole "let's get nuts" scene is so bizzare and some of the dialogue is head scratching "some of it is very much me.....some of it isn't"

Worth a watch if you haven't seen it in awhile, but much stranger than I remember.

Trust, who do ya?
Trust, what makes you a real lover?
Trust, I put this question to ya
Cause I want you to be with me

Love, you cannot imagine
How much I want to give to you
Hot, I get so excited
Just thinkin' about all we could do
Dig it now

Another world awaits us
Another power to see
Close, don't worry about nobody else
From now on you'll be here with me

Money, how much'll make you happy?
You can have it all if it'll suit you right
But nothin', I said nothin' can take the place
Of you and me kickin' it tight, tight!
Come, it's easy
Just let yourself go, don't put up a fight
Sex, it's not that type of party
Girl, we're gettin' higher to night

"Get 'em! Take the pictures!"
"Gotham's greed!"

Trust

Hot and close, dig it now
Oh, that feels good

Oh, my Lord!
When I'm on I feel good
Trust (good Lord)
When I'm on I feel good
Trust

Who do ya trust if you can't trust God?
Who can you trust, who can ya?
Who do ya trust if you can't trust God?
Who can you trust, who can ya?

Come and see

Wait, I want ya with me

Yeah but that's just camp and very 2 dimensional. This thing borders on David Lynch at times.

That's on my Netflix queue too. I can't remember the last time I saw it. Has to be 10+ years. It should be interesting.

And people complain about the current DC universe being too dark

And yet it was still massive success. As Kevin Smith put it:
quote:

In the months pre-dating Batman's release in June 1989, a popular culture phenomenon rose known as "Batmania". Over $750 million worth of merchandise was sold. Cult filmmaker and comic book writer Kevin Smith remembered: "That summer was huge. You couldn't turn around without seeing the Bat-Signal somewhere. People were cutting it into their fricking heads. It was just the summer of Batman and if you were a comic book fan it was pretty hot."
It's a classic in my eyes. It was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. I have fond memories of waking up Christmas morning to massive amounts of Batman merchandise. It started it all for me.

Yeah. It's partly a function of my age and level of interest at the time, but I don't remember that much widespread hype for a movie outside of Phantom Menace.

It was also around the time of the Death in the Family storyline and the 50th anniversary of Batman, so it was bats everywhere.

I prefer it to the Nolan pictures, though its main "contribution" to cinema, as another poster said, was how it was conceived as a merchandise machine--a movie less about making money on the movie than all the junk that would be spawned by the movie. Obviously this is the norm now for blockbusters.

Also, did Batman rape Viki Vale, even though Bruce already banged her willingly?!?

Viki Vale is a moth to the flame when it comes to rich or good looking or superheroes. She can't help herself and you certainly can't blame the light bulb.

She's over 60 and I'd still tear it up. But she'd have to get in line after Mary Steenburgen

I almost forgot, batman murders at least 10 people when he blows up the chemical factory, then tried and failed to murder at least 10 other people on his blitzkrieg with the batwing

Never liked the '90s Batman films much, but the second with Devito as the Penguin was a noticeable improvement (and darker/nastier).

I never really noticed how Batman didn't really care if he killed bad guys. I mean bombs on the batmobile, machine guns. I wonder what the count was.

Plus it's half 1940's and half 1980's. Very strange setting.
