Back to School versus Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Posted by udtiger on 7/14/15 at 7:40 pm51
Both came out in 1986.
Both featured characters with a "devil may care" attitude that had to confront "reality" by the end of the movie.
Both had secondary characters portrayed by actors who would falter in the 1990s but would have a resurgence in the 21st Century (Robert Downey Jr and Charlie Sheen).
Both featured douchey opponents that sought the downfall of our main characters.
AND
Both prominently featured the song "Twist and Shout" in the film.
NOW
As beloved as FBDO is on this board, I would submit Back To School is worthy of similar praise.

Ferris Bueller can eat a dick. Entitled, spoiled, rich kid. Born on second base and thought he hit a double.

They're both classics. I like them both. Sure you could call some parts of each corny, etc. but the lines in each:
"Help me straighten out my longfellow"
"He's a righteous dude"
Among the many...

Another commonality between the movies...
Edie McClurg plays a secretary in both movies (with the same hairstyle in both).

Back to School is one of my favorites. If I had to pick which one to watch on a day on the couch, it would be Back to School. FBDO is a classic, but Rodney is the man and there's more hot chicks and better music

Back To School is more subversive, and it has Rodney Dangerfield and one of my favorite karaoke jams of all time: "Dead Man's Party"
