The embargo is up today so we should start seeing tons of reviews coming in. I'll start posting some when I see them.

A few reviews are up.

A gooey plate of nachos that shouldn't constitute your whole diet, but is perfectly enjoyable for now, even when as congeals at the end into a wet, sloppy mess.

quote:

It is likely that this is the best Avengers movie that we'll ever see.

quote:

James Spader, another living, breathing reason we need a special award for voice work and casting at the Oscars because he was just the perfect choice for everything that Ultron had to offer and performed it incredibly.

The early reviews on reddit (for those who saw the premiere) say that it SHOULD NOT be seen in 3D.

I have no idea what that means, because I don't care about the Avengers.

probably means that the 3D adds nothing worth paying extra for.

The first one was awesome in 3D. Don't understand why this one would be any different. Some people just don't like anything in 3D.

that is also possible.

I don't mind seeing things in 3D. I can even deal with mediocre post conversions. My SO tends to get raging headaches from them though so we try to avoid the 3D viewings.

I have little in common with your typical reddit user. I don't put any stock in their opinion whatsoever.

I wish there'd be more straight IMAX showings rather than iMax 3d. It was tough to find MOS in regular IMAX

I think it's understandable w/how cheap most of the glasses are that theaters give you.

The biggest pain in the arse for me is I sometimes get glasses that are too tight on my head and I end up having to damn near break the things so they don't gradually give me a headache.

Why do all women get headaches like this?

I have come up with a theory based off exhaustive research that includes only what I have read in this thread. I conclude that the problem is the one size fits all glasses one must wear. The glasses are likely too large for the average woman thus create an uncomfortable viewing experience due to eye strain.

I hope the reviews are positive; most of them will be since it will be a good time at the movies a least, but I think it looks fairly bland.

first negative review

If you're happy to, as they say, just turn your brain off and watch your heroes fight, it's fine...But Marvel has set me up to expect stories a bit above that base level

But has Marvel really done that? Their stories aren't very compelling IMO.

From the HitFix review:

quote:

It feels like Whedon decided to go overboard making it up to Jeremy Renner for writing him as a mind-controlled zombie for most of the first film, and the result is one of the best character arcs in the film. Hawkeye emerges as a fully-formed personality this time, and he's enormously enjoyable. I expect fans will be vocal about him and about everything that happens between Natasha and Bruce, and that there will be phone-books full of fan fiction picking up the threads that are laid out in the film.

Thank God. Hawkeye is awesome. Matt Fraction series. Come on, y'all. You can do it. A low budget Marvel movie with Hawkeye and Lucky the pizza dog. I'm very excited that they are actually going to use Renner in this film.

I keep telling you Baloo, Netflix is the way to go for Fraction's Hawkeye.
