IMHO, stark is still dealing with his brush with mortality in the first Avengers. It was a central theme in iron man 3 (albeit done terribly) and was reflected in his actions in AoU. I have a feeling his failure will be a big part of Civil War.

I just hope the insane cast in Civil War doesn't take away from the movie. Winter Soldier was fantastic. I want more of that.

Near death experiences didn't seem to bother him before. At the beginning of Iron Man his convoy was ambushed, he barely survived a shrapnel wound to his heart, got caught by terrorists, and had to build a suit in a cave to escape with his life.

Why did what happen in New York, an event that (on the surface) was less life-threatening to his person change him so drastically compared to what happened to him in the first film?

That was him almost dying when he was a dick and only cared about making weapons and had no love in his life (peppers)

In avengers he not only almost died but almost lost his friends and love of his life AND almost failed to stop aliens from destroying the earth.

So yeah. Those 2 things aren't really a good comparison

his friends
I thought it was pretty clear he has no friends at this point. He doesn't seem to really care what anyone else thinks, even if the world is on the line.

He definitely has a love interest in peppers

And later on in avengers 2 when scarlet witch makes him hallucinate and see the aliens destroying earth he definitely refers to the avengers as his friends

And you can't say he didn't care about the world let's be real here

If they were his friends, he would have consulted them before creating Ultron and causing a Civil War. As I've said before, they seem to be going backwards in the character development of Tony Stark.

Stark has been a bad guy of sorts in Marvel Comics for about 15 years, since the Illuminati really started being in the forefront of the 616, it only makes sense that his character arc to go this way.

I don't disagree that it goes with the comics and fits some renditions of his character, I just think it's going backwards in the sense of what's been established in the MCU. I've posted this earlier, but I kind of wish they would have ventured into the Civil War story line earlier in the films. But I guess this is the only way they could do it at this point. I've always been a RDJ Iron Man fan, and I feel like he's taking a backseat to Cap now. I mean, what side are people going to choose?

Who will choose to be on the side of overpolicing and registering all superheros in the world?

That's just your opinion man lol. We can only go by what actually is happening and said in the movie. Not by what YOU think iron man should be

Honestly they are probably just slowly trying to kill him off.

I am. He went behind everyone's back and created Ultron. Then he went behind everyone's back and created Vision. Then he fought Captain America to protect Vision. Now there's a Civil War between Iron Man and Captain America. That's what "actually is happening".

Whats been going on in the Movies is Iron Man has obviously became weaker minded and fragile when it comes to losing to the alien race and watching his friends\loved ones die because of it. These have factored into his actions and they have stated so multiple times in the movies yet you keep saying "The Stark I know would never do such a thing!! these actions prove thats not true!!!" yet what he actually says in the movie goes against what you believe but you don't care about that because you believe something else.

They are telling you why he is doing what he is doing but you just don't like it and keep saying it doesnt make sense.

Yea, that sounds about right. What is happening is backtracking the progression of his character, and I don't like it. That's just my opinion. You can disagree if you want.

I'm not saying I disagree or agree with it. But like I stated earlier, it's just your opinion. It doesn't make it right or wrong

Everything is an opinion in matters like these. People will say and justify their perception of what they've seen. There is no right answer. Others also believe that Stark has reverted back to his loner ways unlike what was established in the first Avengers. The team aspect that was established is gone, and that's disappointing. There are many avenues of explanations on why Iron Man has gone against what I grew to like about him in prior movies. Some people are turning on him and looking at him like an anti hero.

I mean, I could go on. It's all a matter of opinion, bro. Just because you think they are are going in the right direction, also doesn't make it right.

ETA: It's your "opinion" that they're friends and yet his actions and future movie projects show us something else. See, it's all a matter of opinion.

More ETA: I do believe they will become friends again and I hope the original Avengers will fight along side each other once more. Again, I think this story line would have made more sense if it would have happened earlier in MCU movies. It makes some of the events in the first Iron Man and Avengers useless, IMO.
