Saw this recently on HBO. It had been years since I'd seen it last and it holds up well. There are still some great laughs in it. This was the perfect role for Dudley Moore. RIP Dudley.
I also had forgotten that Seinfeld's dad played the part of Arthur's love interest's dad.
You'll never run out of ice your whole life

Great movie, a classic.

I love that movie, but w/ $750 million (in 1980 something dollars), I'd do better than Liza Minneli.

Arthur is awesome. Arthur 2 is horrible. One of the worst sequels in history and that really isn't an exaggeration.
The remake was almost as bad as the sequel.
Sir John made the movie. Dudley was great but Sir John nailed every line.

Funny, I was just reading the trivia for this movie on IMDB...
quote:
Mia Farrow, Farrah Fawcett, Goldie Hawn, Barbara Hershey, Diane Keaton, Jessica Lange, Bette Midler, Gilda Radner, Susan Sarandon, Cybill Shepherd and Meryl Streep were all considered for the role of Linda.
quote:
Carrie Fisher turned down the role of Linda Marolla.
quote:
Tuesday Weld was originally offered the role of Linda Marolla but turned it down.
quote:
Kim Basinger read for the role of Linda Marolla.

This was one of the first real "adult" movies I saw in the theaters.
Loved it. Still do.

One of the greatest comedic performances ever captured on film.

I loved this movie. I was 20 when it came out and in my party stage so old Arthur kind of hit a chord.
John Gielgud played a great part.

Moore was just an unbelievably talented person. Here's a video of him performing a Beethoven parody on the piano to the "Bridge on the River Kwai" tune:

It's truly Oscar worthy stuff, was nominated for 3 including Moore, Gielgud, and the screenplay.
I love that very early 80s era of high quality, original, comedies with incredible performances...Tootsie is another.
...they both had that great "yacht rock" type soundtrack.

"You're a hooker??? I just thought I was doing really well with you"..
"Take my hand Arthur".."But that would only leave you with one"..
I love this movie. Very quoteable if you've seen it enough.

The interactions between Hobson and Linda are the best.
quote:
Thank you for a memorable afternoon, usually one must go to a bowling alley to meet a woman of your stature.
Linda: Oh, I have plans for tonight. What should I wear?
Hobson: Steal something casual.

Not to hijack this thread but what D.Moore movie was it in which Julie Andrews went topless for the first time in her career? John Ridder co-starred ?

I heard the Christopher Cross song from that movie in Publix last night. Great song and good movie.
