After so many years I finally sat down to watch his movie today. I turned it off after 30 minutes. I guess it's my aversion to camp but I just couldn't get into it.

Am I just missing something with this movie?

THIS is my BOOM STICK!!!

You have to understand when this movie was made and what kind of budget it was on. Sam Raimi made something out of nothing... and it was as much an homage to b-movie horror as it was a riff on the stuff that was current then.

First two Evil Dead movies are classic...campy horror, with some really scary and really funny stuff.

Army of Darkness is more camp and humor.

Ash Williams is one of the coolest movie characters ever, and if you haven't noticed, Bruce Campbell has a cameo in all of Sam Raimi's later films (most notably, the SpiderMan Trilogy.

I think that was my issue. It was definitely camp and I liked the main character but the humor was lacking. IMO.

Duke Henry: You Sir, are not one of my vassals... who are you?
Ash: Who wants to know?
Duke Henry: I am Henry the Red. Duke of Shale, Lord of the Northlands and leader of its peoples.
Ash: Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and shite... and Jack left town.

Raimi / Bruce Campbell fans will defend it to the death, but it's a bad movie. I'm only a fan of the first Evil Dead. I'm not a fan of slapstick, but Evil Dead is good, however, AoD is shite.

"Hey, what's that you got on your face?"

/throws shovelful of dirt on face

Not as low budget as people think. It's the first movie to have fully digital characters. The effects were a big step forward, kind of the bridge between puppetry and Jurassic Park.

And funny as hell. I guess you could think this movie isn't funny. But you'd be wrong.

The guy from vampire diaries-he looks exactly like a young Bruce. It's so distracting for me.....I keep waiting for an outburst
