Are horror TV series outperforming horror movies in quality?

I think so! And it's refreshing.

I'm watching the first episode of Channel Zero (Candle Cove) on Syfy and it's absolutely brilliant. I'm only 15 minutes in and I can tell it's leaps and bounds above 99 percent of horror movies released in theatres and/or DVD.

Channel Zero is actually creeping me out because the premise is so damn smart and original. I've never read the creepypasta story which I think makes watching this even better. No recent horror movie (especially the incredibly overrated The Witch) has remotely creeped me out as much as the first 15 - 20 minutes of Channel Zero.

Other examples include American Horror Story, Ash versus the Evil Dead, Stranger Things, and many more.

Within the past few years TV series are offering more creative originality than big budget movies.

It's been that way for years now.

Yes, but horror movies are taking a rather good turn this year

TV has a huge advantage over film due to the fact that it can tell a self-contained story in 10-12 hours, whereas a horror movie only has about 90-100 minutes.

I agree for the most part. I do, however, think The Witch is one of the best horror/suspense movies to come out over the last 20 years.
