I was under the impression that they stressed to convey that the major areas of destruction had been evacuated

I think Civil War will benefit from the reverse "BvS effect" where people dumped on it just for the sake of dumping on it and to fit in with the internet hive mind. Now, early momentum - and it being a Marvel property - will have people falling all over themselves to join in the groundswell of support. Plus, I do think there will be some "I shite all over BvS here on the board so as to not look like a Negative Nancy I'll laud Civil War" going on here.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying Civil War is going to be bad. I just think it is going to get a pass on weak parts that BvS got nit-fricking-picked to death over.

Looks like its delivering...and I dont think anyone felt like this was a pivotal movie or that the genre was in a backslide....

Age of Ultron was a disappointment maybe to a lot of hardcore fans...but to the casual moviegoer it was a huge hit...

but the franchise is starting to feel stale.

You are probably right, but as long as the story progresses then it'll be watched, and I'll watch it. Im in it now, have to see it through. I think they're trying to make good flicks and not just work off the same formula.

I think Doctor Strange has the potential to shake up the "stale" feeling. At least i hope it does with such a great actor playing Dr. Strange. I'm hoping its a bit darker and more serious. The one thing I don't like are the cheesy jokes...I'm okay SOME of the time...but I think they force them in there too much to appease little kids...and I am hoping civil war is not watered down for little kids to boost merchandising sales. they're already selling it hard to little kids.

The first Avengers film wasn't that good either. People were just enamored over seeing all the heroes on screen together. The second one expanded on and improved upon the original in almost every way with the exception of the main villain.

Yep. I was bored with a rewatch of the Avengers. It was meh...

Also a "dud"? That movie made a ton. People should learn the value of opinions.

The last 4 movies have been Winter Soldier then Guardians then Ultron then Ant-Man. I ask...If you liked all but Ultron how has it gotten stale?

Out of those three, Ultron was my least favorite. Winter Soldier was my favorite of all the Marvel movies. The action and story line flowed so well. I absolutely love what they did with it. I thought the first Captain America was really good as far as tell the story of how Cap came about.

With successful comic books, it should make it easy for the movie makers to put together a good product. Look at TWD and the Dark Knight series. But yet there are some movies that are not casted well and the storylines are extremely weak. The shows that stick closer to the comic books seem to do a lot better.

I usually keep my expectations low but I'm really thinking that Civil War movie will be the best of all the movies. If it's anywhere close to Civil War, no one will be disappointed.

Same here. I remember having a good time at the theatre, seeing all these characters on the big screen was really cool. But it does not hold up well on rewatch for me. I couldn't even finish the last time I tried watching it.

Every Captain America has delivered and been the saving grace of the Marvel Universe. While Avengers: Age of Ultron really had it's issues, it was at least a fun movie whereas the last two Iron Man films and the Thor films are nearly unwatchable.

I guess that Ultron just wasn't great and it had a ton of build up. If this one is also a dud, I wonder about the future of these movies. Is the genre past its prime?

Well neither "Avengers" movie was very good compared to the Captain America films, GotG and even Antman.

I think Civil War will have a hard time for a couple of reasons

One, no matter how good it is, it will be hard to meet the hyped up expectations.

Two, I think they might try and put TOO MUCH into this one and leave a disjointed and incoherent plot.

Well see though.

Both Avengers films were good but not great. This one seems to have a different vibe, though. I am expecting a great film.

Will it be as great as Winter Soldier or as entertaining as Guardians of the Galaxy? We will see...

It's the tone that the Russo bros have created for these films. The other films simply pale in comparison. Marvel seems to have hit the lottery with these guys.

Civil War has already made over 200 million in the international market this week

Thor 1 is great
Cap 1 is real good
Cap 2 is great
Avengers 1 is great
Gotg is great
Ant Man is good

Cap so far is the best to keep following. But Civil War is not a Cap 3 movie to me. When they give us what looks like another Cap movie, that'll be when I continue my following of Cap. I am sitting out on Civil War since it rather looks like an Avengers 2.5 movie.

Oh, and I remember I liked Iron Man 1, but would have to see it again to tell just how good it is.

I advise you not to.

you're doing yourself a huge disservice by sitting it out.

Yes/no. It's a Marvel character, but not MCU. It's in the X-Men continuum (again, also Marvel, but not Marvel Movies).

Ultron was a bit of a letdown, but let's see how things stand over time. As an example, I was a huge Star Wars geek when the originals were in the theaters. Empire Strikes Back left me feeling let down, "is that all there is?", etc. Lots of fans felt that way. Now, viewed from a distance, it's generally considered the best of the OT. Perhaps that had to do with Jedi really going overboard with the kiddie stuff... but I digress. Won't really be able to judge Ultron until we see where it fits.

Same thing, btw, with BvS. If the Batman story takes off (especially with Suicide Squad), and Wonder Woman is good, we'll go back and revisit BvS. It does establish the universe these characters will live in.

And speaking of X-Men, while I like the current films, I'm really not even sure WHICH universe they are now in. Canon got tossed when Mystique became the big good guy.
