I too used to think japanimation was for the dorks who sat in the tv room of the dormatory or student union at 2:00 am on a Friday night. You all know that stereotype is kinda spot on.

However, after a party one night when I was floating back to my dorm on a magic fungus ride, I detoured into the tv room and sat down on a couch to watch tv. A few dudes were there like usual watching of all things Akira. It blew my mind (though I wasn't in reality at that moment anyhow). Regardless, it was amazing.

My next anime experience was Ghost in the Shell. Incredible. I've been hooked ever since (without the aid of a fungal remedy)...

1996. Changed my perspective. Those tv nerds all of the sudden were cool. It's like they had a secret knowledge and I stumbled into it - or the powers of the universe had a plan all along.

I wish I had my list of watched anime on me, I clueless to what I've watched without it. It's still in physical form and has yet to be stored on my pc.

And to the guys talking about old Toonami, ToonamiAfermath is trying their best to recreate it. They have but a few new shows that weren't on originally on there(I think original Digimon ), but the rest stays close to the original. They even have all the bumps back to the Moltar days(even the signing off bump)

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but Ninja Scroll is pretty good.

Ok, can I get some specialized recommendations? It seems like this thread has listed every anime; probably, because OP has seen a ton of them.

So, this thread reminded me that I have really liked animes, but I haven't seen that many. So, I wanted to pick it back up. Here is some info that might help:

Predominantly watching through Netflix.

Death Note is one of my favorite series of any genre.

I just watched Ghost in the Shell, and while I enjoyed it, it wasn't top tier to me because it took the whole show to get to know the characters. It was a great concept though. Are the additional Ghost shows worth watching?

Really enjoyed Avatar (air bending, not blue people).

Don't typically like machine/ robot stuff as much. But, I haven't seen many of them. The ones I have tried to watch, I have lost interest in. Sorry, I don't recall the names; it has been awhile.

My current queue looks like:

Trigun - I like westerns in general, and this seems to be unanimously considered good.
Naruto
Bleach
Highschool of the Dead

Unfortunately, Akira is not on instant.

I'm the same with you on this but Gundam Wing is excellent. Full metal alchemist (follows the manga for the first part but then strays to its own story) and full metal alchemist brotherhood (follows the manga fully) are amazing. If you like Naruto you'd probably like Fairy tail too. It's one of those where if you can stand the kiddy/weird stuff the serious parts are fun to watch.

Look into Rurouni Kenshin and Yu Yu Hakusho. Two of my all time favorites.

Without too much effort on your part, is there a good place to view this stuff online? Netflix only has one season of Yu Yu, and Rurouni is disc only. Which, would take a while to get though (20 something discs).

I'll see what I can dig up.

Here is Kenshin. I'm sure they have Hakusho too.

Speaking of anime, I was wondering if any of you guys could help me remember the name of one that used to come on Toonami.

It was about this Japanese kid who lived with his great uncle (or something).
He was learning to use the sword.
And all these space women started coming down to live him, and he had to deal with it.
Like there was this princess chick and this outlaw chick and this old-looking chick who used this spirit laptop thing that she could summon when she wanted to do research.
And there were some interstellar police chicks, too.

Do y'all know what I'm talking about, by any chance?
