Since we all seem to dislike every list that we find, I say we see what happens if we try to compile a Top 100 Movies of All-Time List. I'll do the work.
Here's the plan: We have a lot of different tastes and a decent amount of posters. That alone should level out inconsistencies. It'll be a mixture of the overly critical and some of your average "I just want to be entertained" movie-goers.
I would say give me your Top 20 films of all-time , but make sure that you have a clear line of thought when making it. Order them 1-20. #1 gets 20 points, #2 gets 19 points, etc. So obviously, movies with the most points go to the top of the overall list.
I will break ties by looking at how many people listed the movie. So if Movie A (by 2 people) & B (by 4 people) get 27 points, B goes first.
I will then rank 1-100, you get the picture.
Really, I just want to do it to see how we fair. Will we leave out obvious films? Will weird films be ranked near the top? Or will we level out with general trends (Godfather, Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, etc.)?
I'll go first:
1. Throne of Blood
2. Seven Samurai
3. City Lights
4. Rear Window
7. Wizard of Oz
8. Gone with the Wind
9. Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
11. 2001: A Space Odyssey
12. The Maltese Falcon
13. The Night of the Living Dead
14. The Searchers
15. Duck Soup
16. Double Indemnity
17. Die Hard
18. The Wild Bunch
19. The Graduate
20. Blade Runner
Don't know when the cutoff point will be, maybe when there are no submissions for a few straight days. So some thought can be put into it.
REVISION: 1) List sequels together.
2) Using a formula based off of IMDB's, therefore it uses points and rankings to determine position.
