I'm through episode 5 of season 1. I really, really like the production quality, direction, and acting in the show. It's also challenging some of my values, which is something I like in literature and films/tv shows, but I have to admit that it could let me down in the end. I don't have anything against watching a story about someone who is trans, but I do have a problem with a mother leaving their husband and kids for a sexual relationship and acting like that's okay.

I've heard a little about it but I can't stand Tambor.

I've never seen the show, but I've heard the new season has Alia Shawkat boobies.

I watched a couple of seasons. I thought it was decent. It seemed like all of the characters were just pretty bad selfish people. It was difficult to root for any of them.

That's what I'm worried about. That they're just going to keep being shitty and their actions will be excused instead of them developing as people.

I've watched all eps except the 4th season that just came out (no pun intended). Pretty good show. Well acted, and interesting story lines.

I like that the episodes are short. Keeps it punchy, and I don't have to commit a chunk of time.

Local angle with Jay Duplass in the cast. And for "Who's the Boss?" fans, Angela (Judith Light) is in it too.

But people should not watch if they can't handle or don't like trans, lesbians, female rabbis having hetero sex, and similarly shocking(!!) material that may take them out of their comfort zone.

Just started Season 4. It's a really good comedy, IMO. Thoughtful, challenging and well acted. I like how its about life and family more than any strict storylines.

Agreed, but I think thats part of it. Rob Huebel's character is probably my favorite. Everybody has they're own ssues. I also felt like the show was fair to different/conflicting points of view.

Starting season 4 tomorrow

The kids are all hateable in a likable way (or something)

The flashbacks to grandma rose/gershin in Germany are intense.

Considering it tries to normalize people with mental illness, no.

I've never watched this show.

But as a psychologist, I can tell you that normalization is a good way to help people get better.
Treating people like freaks, or telling them that they should keep their mental illness completely to the themselves, only makes them worse.

Food for thought.

You're deliberately confusing the point here.

Encouraging people to make drastic and devastating physical changes to their bodies in response to their mental illness is far, far worse than what you're describing. Shows like this that normalize such behavior are not good for the people actually dealing with this illness.

Is this show like a SJW version of Mrs. Doubtfire? No thanks.
