Very surprised that Sam lasted as long as he did. On day one I figured he'd be one of the first to go. He definitely made a mistake building his shelter so exposed... but still toughed it out for 50+ days. Impressive.

Yeah. He's a tough cookie for sure.

His youth definitely was what benefited him. He was also in really good spirits throughout. He had a good temperament about him.

Finally got around to watching finale, after working late past two nights. YES MY MAN WON!!! i laughed pretty hard when he said " already". Alan is a boss and I like that hes gona set his dad up with the cash first and his sexy wife was cool with it.

Anyone watch Sam's return home video on history.com? They said he weighed 245 when he left. he gets on the scale after aday of binging on bagels breakfast sandwiches and double cheeseburgers, weighs 162. 83 pounds lost in 2 months!!!! lol. The Vancouver Mice Diet

Yeah, I saw that. If Sam was a little older with some better skills it would've been real interesting to see how long it could've lasted.

The woods provide a buffer and I'm surprised he didn't plan for that considering his abilities and desire to win.. Amazing that he lasts that long on the beach as his primary shelter.

I was rooting hard for him to move camp once the wind really started whipping enough to where he was not able to sleep.

I remained baffled as to why more of the guys didn't build stronger, larger, & more protectee shelters.

You know the weather is going to keep you in cover. So why not build a 10x10 structure to give yourself room to move around instead of just laying there all day/noght waiting out the rain?
Also, a larger shelter lends itself to more dry storage for firewood & (Step Brothers) so mich more room for activities! Gotta keep that mind occupied to stay in the game & avoid going stir crazy like 3 of the final 4 did.

Major respect to Sam for lasting as long as he did, even in his poor shelter placement.
Alan was just the better equipped player all around. Taking care of his old man with his winnings is admirable as well.

Great show. Glad Alan won. He seems like he would have lasted a lot longer if he had to.

Any word on a second season? This has definitely been the best survival show so far IMO.

Haven't seen anything yet. Probably waited until after this one aired to cast for the 2nd. They may also be waiting for a specific time of year depending on if they are going somewhere artic/tropical. No way they use the same loc. I'm kind of torn on whether or not I would prefer a place with little to no predators.

I wasn't sure if you've seen this yet or not, but yes, Alone has been renewed for a second season. It's going to be filmed on Vancouver Island again this fall.

That means this next season is going to be very different.

The contestants will use the first season as a reference in preparing.

They will last much longer.

Unless it's in the middle of winter instead of late fall.

This is true, but it really comes down to who they select to go on the show. The producers might skip some highly qualified/prepared survivalists in favor of some contestants with more "interesting" personalities to try to make the show more entertaining.

I thought the first season of naked and afraid was a bit more "real" than the subsequent seasons. It seemed like they chose contestants that weren't exactly qualified in favor of creating entertainment. I hope Alone doesn't fall into that trap.
