I love those Alaskan shows but I also take them for what they are, reality TV. I have definitely gotten the "con man vibe" from these guys though.

I thought they were documented as con artists. The Alaskan government is coming after them for collecting benefits while not actually being residents or something.

I didn't know that.

As far as the moonshiner cast,

I'm guessing they are all legal.

I know Tim Smith is. Jim Tom cracks me up

My parents do and it drives me crazy to hear those people talk. I was visiting over the holidays and think I crushed my dad's world when I told him the people on the other one (can't remember name but Jewel is related to them) were filthy rich and owned a good portion of the major town close to them.

The family claims that they were living in Alaska at the time and the state believed otherwise. The father and one of the sons accepted a plea deal and spent a few months in jail.

I don't think they're con artists. I just think they're poor ppl trying to live off the land. Don't know why any abled body person would want to spend their life being perpetually broke.

Watched a few shows of one season and quit. They remind me of a family I knew growing up. If the Bush people move within a five mile radius (walking distance) you need to move the hell out.

They are like locusts. They move to a place and steal, barter or take all of the free resources then move on to the next fertile place where no one knows who they are.

I saw where they were living on a boat in commercials one time. I guess they moved on from that also.

Unless you are poorer than them it's not a family you want to have any relations with. Help them once and they will show up every day for more help.

Billy Brown ( the dad) wrote a book "One Wave at a time" and they are acting out of the book.

I think I read somewhere that before they were picked up on television they were much more involved in the modern world.

Its all fake bro.

They are. The dad made good money on a book deal. Then the books were all bought up and no longer available.
They live in the lower 48 and aren't always in Brown town.

All I don't get is all the money they make now and they can't get Snowbird's teeth fixed.

I've watched pretty regularly; it's interesting but it is a "reality"show so I don't take it seriously.

Actually, I like "Alaska-The Last Frontier" about the Kilcher family homestead, better. its just a better show imo.

I watched long enough to realize it's phony even for reality TV.
