The Internet is replete with stories of the Wachowskis screening it to producers and saying "we want to do this." James Cameron loved it and used it as an inspiration for Avatar, and Spielberg allegedly bought the rights after watching it.

The Wachowskis obviously changed some things, but a lot of elements and leitmotifs are reused. I guess you could say GitS's tone is itself derivative of Blade Runner's.

If you haven't watched it, please do. Great movie, very rewatchable. The dubbed version is perfectly alright. The live action with ScarJo will probably be an abortion, but I'll go see it anyway.

amazing movie. The live action movie won't be nearly as good.

Really?

Really?

I can give you one HUGE difference between Ghost in The Shell and The Matrix that makes The Matrix not just impressive, but amaze balls.

I always wonder about a live action Akira. If done right..would be huge. Especially with the Asian market.

I was never really impressed with the matrix.

I don't understand why Akira can't be made right now with all the technology available.

James Cameron literally created a new world and developed state-of-the-art 3D cameras while still turning a massive profit.

Yet, I've read relatively recent articles that state Akira, at this time, would be too expensive to film. People estimate that it would require at least a $300 million budget.

I don't get that...
