This could be one of the most underrated comedies of all time. While it is widely loved, it is only looked upon as a holiday movie. It recently came up in a conversation at work, and after some thought, I would probably put this in my top15 comedies of all time. I no longer look at it as just a holiday movie. What say you?

It is one of my top 5 favorite movies ever. I love the brand of humor in this movie and the acting is tremendous--especially by McGavin as the old man and the all the kids in the movie.

I own about 4 t-shirts with ACS themes (yes, I'm that guy) and someone got me a Leg Lamp night light for Christmas this year.

Two years ago on a trip to Canada I was able to go to the building that was used for the exterior scenes at the school. I saw where the infamous flag pole scene was shot. The "school" building was now some kind of Home Health building, but the flag pole was still there.

Some guy bought the house in Cleveland where the movie was filmed and has restored it to look just like the movie. Complete with all the props.

For sure it was underrated when it came out, but it's appropriately rated now. Underrated movies don't get their own marathons.

I want to go there and visit. Saw that they had a 25 year reunion a couple of years ago there where all the actors came back and met with fans. That would be awesome. He also remodled the house on the inside to look like the interior scenes in the movie which were actually shot on a sound stage.

A Christmas Story

Has a special meaning for me since it was filmed in Cleveland where I grew up and at about the same time period when I was a kid. My wife and I love it but my kids HATE it.

I thought the movie was more like the early 60's but I could be wrong now that I remember that old car he drove. I was 9 in 1968.

Raphie’s elementary schoool, Warren G. Harding Elementary School is a real school in Hammond, Indiana. Warren G. Harding Elementary School was the childhood school of “A Christmas Story” author Jean Shepherd. However, the school used for the filming of the movie was Victoria School in St Catharines, Ontario, Canada. Victoria School closed several years ago and has since been converted to a women’s shelter. Most of the pictures below were discovered by Tyler Schwartz during the filming of Road Trip for Ralphie. The photos were taken by Anne Dean a teacher at Victoria School during the filming.

As luck would have it my wife's family is from Ontario and one of my father in law's sisters lives in St. Catherines a couple miles from this school. When we went to visit in 2008 I insisted we drive by the place and see the flag pole. My wife's Aunt knew exactly where it was.

It's completely underrated as a comedy. Most people only think of this movie around christmas. I am just saying that, after recent thought on the movie, I think it is a superior comedy. Not just a holiday movie.

The opening credits lists Jean Smart as "adult" Ralphie but there are no scenes with adult Raphie in them. I've always wondered if this was in reference to the fact that the stiry is based on a Jean Smart book or if there was a deleted scene that the credit was in reference to.
