I finally got around to watching this last night. Wow what an incredible film experience. Amazing visual story telling and use of music. Different than what I always thought this movie was.
Kubrick had some balls to make a movie like this with hardly a word spoken in the first half hour of the film.
I also noticed that star wars was heavily influenced by the look and design of this film.
I give it 5 stars.

If you like 2001, I'd recommend the original version of Solaris.

It is certainly visually stunning and has a wonderful score.
However, the artistic message of the film was a bit too ambiguous for my taste.
I prefer his later work.
